75 years ago today The Catcher in the Rye was first published. It has been 45 years since I have read it. Do they still have high school students read this? I wonder what I would think of it if I was to reread it now?
I saw Paige Shelton has a new standalone book coming out in October called The Bone Woman! And it was on Edelweiss to download early which of course I just did!
Playing Ark Nova which is one of our favorite games! Even when I am not doing well it is still a lot of fun to see what animals I can get it my zoo!
A new Noodle Shop Mystery is coming out! And Then There Were Bun by Vivien Chien comes out on August 25! This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series.
Today was my library book discussion I lead. We discussed The Paris Express by Emma Donoghue. I never know how the discussion is going to go but as usual we had a great time talking about the book.
How did I miss that author Clay McLeod Chapman is coming to my library system on August 26 in support of his upcoming book Devil Inside. Which I immediately registered myself and my wife for and downloaded an egalley of his new book to read!
I just saw A.G. Slatter has a new horror book coming out in October called Fincher's Bird! I love the cover too!
One of my fave books is coming out as a graphic novel adaptation. Legends & Lattes comes out on September 22. I checked out some of the early pages and the artwork looks great!
I almost forgot to wish a very happy #BookBirthday to Tapestry of Fate by Shannon Chakraborty! And may we have many more adventures with Amina al-Sirafi and her crew!
Finally Scott Hawkins has a new novel coming out called Blacktail! I loved his first The Library at Mount Char and it has been 11 years since that book came out. This publishes on September 1.
The labyrinth is ready with traps, monsters, and treasure chests to find! We are about to play our first game of Lairs!
I finished In the Devil Wind by Richard Kadrey. I thought we saw the last of Sandman Slim in King Bullet so I was thrilled to get one more adventure with him. I was happy with how things ended in the previous book but I do feel this was a more satisfying ending to his story. Bravo Mr. Kadrey!
This morning I finished Twice by Mitch Albom. I read this for my library book discussion on May 1. After the last book we did I wanted to give my group something more uplifting and light. I think this hit the mark!
I enjoyed Strange Pictures by Uketsu when it came out last year. The illustrations did add to the story. I am curious how this manga version illustrated by Kikou Aiba is going to be. This is the first of three planned volumes. It comes out June 16.
There is a new John Scalzi book coming out in November called Monsters of Ohio! His books are always a lot of fun and being from Ohio I know we do have some weird stuff going on here!
Jonathan Strahan has edited a new anthology called The Book of the Dead that comes out October 6. It has a great lineup of writers and a stunning cover that makes this a must read for me!
Another must add to my TBR pile is As We Fall Through Time by Claire North! Her books are always a fun time and this time travel story published on October 13!
Just added to my TBR is Where the Moon Stands Still: Revealing the Cosmic Genius of Ohio's Indigenous Earthworks by James W. Graham. This is about Ohio's only UNESCO World Heritage Site which I visited a couple of years ago! This published on September 2.
Another nonfiction book I am currently reading is CENTENNIAL: THE GREAT FAIR OF 1876 AND THE INVENTION OF AMERICA'S FUTURE by Fergus M. Bordewich. I did not realize what a pivotable point in our country's history 1876 was before reading this. History buffs need to check this out. #ewgc
1st up for me is SLASHER SUMMER by E.L. Chen. This is for people who loved old school 80s slasher movies! I had a lot of fun trying to guess the ending too!
Browsing upcoming releases and this one caught my eye: A Scrooge Mystery by Andreina Cordani. Scrooge is seeing ghosts again and has to solve a murder to save Bob Cratchit! Just in time for Christmas of course. This comes out on November 3.
Jason Pargin has a new entry in the John Dies at the End series called There Are No Giant Crabs in This Novel coming out on November 3! This is a great jumping on point if you have not tried this series yet.
