Chapter 3

The clothes fit weird as hell, but they do fit. Faded blue jeans, one of those blue long sleeve shirts you always see people working in that buttons up for some reason, a pair of high neck rubber boots that I’m pretty sure came from a box store. They all feel wrong on my body somehow though in a way I can’t explain. Just wrong. I’m not surprised that I can’t find my phone, but the big clock in the hall tells me its only been 25 minutes. She’s downstairs finishing the dishes when I walk in. I’ll admit I spent the first 10 minutes after she left, ripping one out thinking about her, and I can feel that stirring back up now as she turns to me.
“Okay kid, you look the part; lets get you to work.”
“David. My names David.”
She rolls her eyes. “I know I saw your ID Kid, now first things first; you know how to trim a tree?”
“Yeah I uh, actually I’ve been doing a lot of garden and lawn care work since I was young.”
“Good I reckon after yalls snoopin last night you know where the tools is. Start by going out to the orchard and trimmin the branches. Theres a rot tryna take my apples an I need it gone. After that, I’ll meet you by the fence and you gon help me put new wire up. Will go from there.”

I nod “Yes Ma’am”

“Oh ya do got manners then, good yo momma didn’t just raise up an asshole. Well get to it then.”

Chapter 2

Pie. The first thing I notice is the scent of pie; then the sound of a rooster crowing, and that sends a shock of pain through my head. The night comes flashing back, a few scenes at the end blurry from what I have to assume was a pretty bad head wound. My hand reaches up for it, but something catches it part way. My eyes shoot open. I’m in an unfamiliar room; tied to a rather large bed. The sun is just starting to peak through the curtain. I had assumed the owner would call an ambulance or at least the police; but this is just fucking kidnapping and unlawful arrest or something! I struggle against the ropes, thick brown leather digging into my wrists and ankles to no avail.
