Vegans can eat well in Hawaii - this is hard to get at local breakfast cafes but if you have a little kitchen, all available at local supermarkets like Down-to-earth and Foodland - plantbased sausage with local kale, parsley, tomato & cilantro, fresh papaya & oats with seeds, nuts & dried fruit
Got married here many years ago, always nice to be back at Turtle 🐢 bay #hawaii #oahu #travep #sustainable I've read they now use a machine here to change bottles back to sand for the golf course here, hope to see how as this has potential for other areas without glass recycling in Hawaii & beyond
Does money motivate people to recycle? ♻️ In Hawaii, you pay an extra 6¢ per can deposit & can get it back at recycling centers, but only 61% of aluminum is recycled In Japan, no deposits, but aluminum can ♻️ above 97% 🤔 Luv this Made-in-Hawaii sparkling lilikoi+ lychee juice & good branding
Another beautiful morning 🌄 to skip traffic & take the train 🚂 on Oahu - the views are great, the hassle of traffic & gas prices is none 😊
Dark clouds & passing showers today on Kailua beach ⛱️ but still love it here
Tofu burger at Zippys Hawaii is one of the main choices, MOS burger in Japan should do a similar simple vegetarian tofu burger & make sure to try a Zippys chocolate filled donut - a dollop of chocolate icing on a glazed donut 😋
North shore SUP & Budda bowl healthy vegan local veggies & tofu breakfast 😋 - reminder I should be able to do this in Hiroshima too along rivers - such a great way to start the day! #hawaii #healthylife #plantbased
Avg per capita energy use Japan via World Bank 2024: 7,530 kwh/yr = 625 kwh / month - Would be nice to see what per household excluding industry / business is as it's skewed to big industrial users, but still interesting for UK, Australia, South Korea, China data.worldbank.org/indicator/EG...
July 9th was a great day for solar power on our rooftop in Hiroshima & we are already seeing big savings on our energy bill in June (we buy through Minna-Denryoku a renewable energy source) - This June payment was 50% less than before we had more home solar and battery installed #cleanenergy #japan
Reading a great book at the beach ⛱️ Wintering: 'we may sometimes drift through years in which we feel like a negative presence in the world, but we come back again, not only restored, but bringing more than we brought before: more wisdom, more compassion, a greater capacity..' 💜
Rainy day kitty 🐈 cuddles 😁 Toki is our lone wolf 🐺 who prefers a secret cubbie to sleep in 💤 Tiki is a cuddler & groomer with either of the Alpha cats🐈⬛ Gary or Toki - so grateful for the peacemakers ❤️ #rescuecats #japan
Rooftop Solar & Home Battery update July 2nd - Cloud to Sunny day in Hiroshima, Japan: Generated 23.5 kWh, used 7.4 kWh, bought 1.2 kWh and sold 12 kWh #solar #battery #japan #selfsufficiency #cleanenergy #rooftopsolar #homebattery
Was good day for solar power ☀️ our renovated house keeps pretty cool 30° C outside but only need fans & charged EV 🚗 EV Solar + Battery data: Power consumption 40.4 kWh □ Purchased electricity amount 19.6 kWh □ Amount of electricity sold 11.1 kWh □ Total amount of electricity generated 25.5 kWh
What's hard about working in Japan?inequality is top of list: denied promotion 20+ yrs as working mother & 'vacation' of mat-leave, I can relate to issues Mayor Shoko Kawata faces -in today's NYTimes via @japantimes.co.jp This connects to birthrate decline: support working mothers = increase
Just plugged the car in to charge from solar & system kicks in to automatically take some from grid - wish I could adjust to take more from battery instead of grid to utilize more self-generated solar power, I also can't seem to reduce power of charge with Honda EV that I could w Tesla 🤔 #learning
I'm sticking with Honda for many reasons - the aftercare & customer service is fabulous in Japan as well as grid charging infrastructure is fast, it's also a great car to drive but I did lose 100km of driving range after 1 month which seems like a lot of recalibration 🤔 so there are new concerns
Europeans are buying Teslas even though they dislike Elon Musk - I completely understand this as the Teslas are great cars with decent resale value, but when I had chance, it felt better to get Honda EV - great car, but still new & unproven on reliability & resale, also limited availability #EVs
