When we launched JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000 in 2014, it was a Giffen-DeMatteis-Maguire project. For reasons that remain unclear, DC removed Kevin. I loved what Howard Porter & @scottkolins.bsky.social did (they're both outstanding), but look at this art I found in an old file & imagine the Maguire version.

This arrived on my porch the other day: an impressive, oversized edition. This is only the second time I've written Venom (the first being the "Maximum Carnage" saga—which my story in this new collection is a sequel to).

It's @xmmarv.bsky.social 's birthday. Marv's notable contributions to the Marvel and DC mythologies are too numerous to detail, but if all he ever did was write TOMB OF DRACULA, his place in Comic Book Valhalla would be assured. Happy Birthday!

And here are two more favorites. Look at what can be accomplished with a static image and small shifts of expression. (Art by Joe Staton/Legends of the Dark Knight and Mikel Janin/JL Dark.) All of these were broken down precisely in my scripts, but you always need a great artist to make it work.
I've seen some conversation here about the value of the 9 panel grid. (I'll add the 12 panel grid to that.) It's a valuable tool in the writer's arsenal: you can build suspense, jump through time, dive deep into character. Here's Sal Buscema bringing some of those grids to brilliant life.

Superman, in my view, represents the best in all of us. It's not his powers that matter—it's his decency, his compassion and, yes, his innate charm. It's as if, back in 1938, our collective unconscious created the hero we needed. We need him now more than ever.
I've been lucky enough to write Superman in comics, animation, and live action (okay, they called it Superboy, but close enough, right?). If I could travel back in time and tell my ten-year-old, comics-obsessed self what was waiting in his future, he'd faint from sheer delight.
Happy Superman Day (a day late)! My love of Superman began with George Reeves in TV's Adventures of Superman and comics written by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, Otto Binder, and Edmond Hamilton (among others) and illustrated by Curt Swan, Wayne Boring, Kurt Schaffenberger, and Al Plastino.
It's Gil Kane's birthday! When I was a kid he was right behind Kirby in my comic book pantheon and I still can't believe I got to work with him on one of my first Marvel gigs. (I love the fact that my son was born on Kane's birthday and my daughter was born on Kirby's. Talk about impeccable timing!)
