Yesterday looked like the least gross day here in a while, but we were invited to my cousin's birthday party for most of the day. So we decided to take the bikes to my cousin's, for a total of 4.5 hrs of bike riding. Perfect choice, really. (Even though my butt hurt quite a bit by the end. 😅)
What do you know, we found another traditional place to hide from the heat!
I've owned this book since 2018. It's a novelisation of a Jdrama I have helped subtitle, so while it's got regular adult novel words, I *know* what happens. Every time I picked it up over the last few years, I read two sentences and then went, "omg WORD SALAD TOO HARD TOO HARD"
I missed my planned train home because Strasbourg chose the JLPT weekend for public transport renovation. So I'm on a TGV. Which is reservation only. So I'm in the bar coach. And I spent four hours in an overheated auditorium with no food. So now I'm drunk. (It was just one tiny rosé!!!)
Bicycle Saturday! The road was a liiiiiiittle more mountainbiking than we'd ideally like, but the rewards are worth it. 😅
Tonight we had a dual experiment cooking session - @frameofmind.bsky.social experimented with spicy peanut noodles à la Big Bowl, and I tried out a sweet and sour chicken recipe from Woks of Life. The peanut noodles are 10/10 IMO. Mine was more 6/10 - chicken very tender, sauce... kinda weird. 🧑🍳
I had been craving some Sukiya gyudon foreverrrrrrr and tonight I finally tried my hand at a copycat recipe - SUCH SUCCESS 🥹 It was very yummy!

I just chased @frameofmind.bsky.social up 210m of elevation because I can't read maps (I mean, I read them, but more like... as flat) and we had to abort mission re: the full bike tour because I wanted to stay married. But we ended up in a cute little town and found medicine in the shade, so. 😇
Nursing our respective sunburns (@frameofmind.bsky.social has a singular red stripe around her ankles) in the shade with some cooling salve and a breeze. Could be worse. 😁
This is an improvised cooling pack. I bought some Après Soleil and have been calling it the Après Stupidité.
Way, way back around 2002 or so, I had the worst sunburn of my life - belly, boobs, literally everywhere. Since then I would say I stopped being stupid and never had a serious sunburn again. Except today I thought it a fine idea to kayak for six hours and not put on sunscreen. It's a bit ouch.
No food ever tastes as good as the kind you have after three hours of hard adventuring 😊😋

According to the forecast, today is our rainiest day, so we're having a nice chill start with a 1pm breakfast. 😊
We are on our way to France for our (by now traditional) glamping week! We rented an EV for this one, as a field test for how we'd cope with having an EV full time. So far charging stops have lined up nicely with burger needs / ice cream needs. 😇
When OneDrive gets desperate... (This is a picture of what the basement wall looked like after we had had a small radiator removed. 😂 Admittedly removing radiators is always a special occasion at our house...)
While we were cycling back from lunch, the sun decided it was done for the day and temperatures drrroppped. But since we are not weak we did not let that deter us from traditional ice cream on the way home. 😇
