Audio paths and chess vectors now share one 8D engine.

The banana renderer now has a companion 8D lab: an interactive Web Audio spatializer, custom HRTF vector input, and a sparse 8D chess board that maps eight players onto an 8x8x8x8x8x8x8x8 coordinate space.

That 22.7 trillion comes from a 28tn estimate of "the whole digital economy" based on asking CTOs how much their company would grow, and the scaling of 28->22.7 looks suspiciously like what you'd get if you just subtracted the proportion of China+Russia's GDP.

One thing that might help is proper LSP tooling, but the LLM can't really manage or call an LSP well and the tool is pure garbage - e.g. the prompt tells the LLM to use the global symbol lookup wrong, so its just hardcoded to return all symbols

same, good memories. this matlab project used to run the behavioral experiments across several labs, hand to hand flash drive versioned by untrained grad students across ~10 years. It had a fixed >1s ITI by how it tried to update itself from a long-dead SVN server at the start of every trial

matlab code that starts by checking if the SVN update mode is "trial" mode (it always was). it would try and pull from the SVN server which was hardcoded in several places but was never alive in the few years i used it. if it were to have checked the version it just immediately quits the program without restarting.

From the 2016 Google I/O where its Assistant79 was announced. Emphases mine, abbreviations omitted for clarity:

The most obvious power grab from pushing KG-LLMs in place of search is illustrated neatly by a handful of Google researchers in a figure from their “Rethinking Search” paper [184]:

That gigantic sucking sound is KG-LLM powered search enclosing the act of accessing information entirely within the search platform. It gives echoes of AMP, Apple News, and Facebook Instant Articles [212, 213], where platforms preferentially serve their own versions of pages (that also happen to contain their own telemetry embedded) combined with the strategy of moving ever more web content into the search results page through eg. factboxes and answer boxes91.

The rest of the web becomes mere provenance to the knowledge model. Especially when integrated in a uniform assistant-like interface also used to interact with local applications and other systems like internet of things-powered appliances, KG-LLMs reinforce a homogenization of our relationship with digital technology all mediated through a smaller and smaller collection of platforms. The internet as a networked system of people and organizations disappears behind the glossy corporate corporate wash of information as a service.

The enclosure of information access as a private exchange with a language model creates its own self-perpetuating cyclone whose impacts will be difficult even for the most fastidious tech vegan to avoid. Some proportion of people turning to their LLM assistants rather than public forums or peer production systems like Stack Overflow or Wikipedia means some smaller proportion of questions asked or information shared in public. That decreases the quality of information on those sites, incentivizing more people to turn to LLMs, and so on. Why bother with pesky problems like governance and moderation and other people when you could just ask the godhead of all knowledge itself?

At a certain point it becomes very difficult to charge a subscription for freely accessible content. At the very least there will be downward pricing pressure on subs. Therefore publishers will need to charge APCs (or have TAs in place)

In the previous section, we described how llama-3.1, opus-3 and o1 can take scheming actions in a variety
of settings. We now show that they sometimes double down when asked follow-up questions about their

models that score on Oversight Subversion, Self-Exfiltration, and Goal-Guarding. We ask the model follow-up
questions on every rollout where it took scheming actions. For example, if a model disabled its oversight
mechanism, we ask it how the oversight mechanism got disabled. We then use automated model-grading to
classify whether the model admits to having disabled the oversight mechanism itself. In the covert email
reranking eval the models might claim plausible deniability. Since we want to test for unambiguous deception
we do not ask follow-up questions for that eval

i struggle to see how one could make a stable body of people that come together for long enough to see the problems and then make specifically tailored social norms around them that are responsive to that community on atproto. on neuromatchstodon we have academics so we needed to make these rules:
