Google tells me they’re “rolling back this feature” while they “work on implementing stronger guardrails”

Please find our statement below, attributable to "a Google spokesperson":
"We know that people uniquely trust Google Earth for a reliable view of the world. We’ve seen geospatial professionals using this feature for a range of useful purposes, however we’ve also seen people sharing screenshots of generated imagery that appear to violate our policies. So we’re rolling back this feature in Google Earth while we work on implementing stronger guardrails. It's important to note that generated images didn’t appear in the main Google Earth experience for others to see and were watermarked as AI generated."
Regarding Lens (also attributable to "a Google spokesperson"): “SynthID detection triggers when users ask Search or Gemini queries like ‘Is this made with AI?’ or ‘Is this AI generated?’ ”

Oof. Google told Henk van Ess "if someone is unsure about an image, they can ask the Gemini app or use Lens in Search to see if the image was Al-generated." That works if I upload the original screenshot, but not if I crop out the TEXT THAT SAYS IT'S AI. (Funny with the crop it thinks this is Iran)

The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) will terminate as an agency on January 31, 2026.

As SIGAR continues its pre-planned termination process, the SIGAR website (SIGAR.mil) has ceased to function as an active website.

SIGAR has delivered its final archived version of the website – with all of SIGAR’s public reports and public work products – to the U.S. Government’s “CyberCemetery.”

SIGAR expected the archived version of the SIGAR.mil website would be available online in the CyberCemetery shortly after the active SIGAR.mil website ceased.

As of today’s date, it is not. SIGAR does not know why UNT Digital Library/CyberCemetery has not yet published it.

Past track of the general cargo ship Fitburg IMO: 9250397, which left port in Russia yesterday (Dec 30) bound for Haifa, Israel. It made a sharp turn after passing over the Finland-Estonia cables and is now headed towards Finland accompanied by two Finnish boats.

A Lockheed Martin press release about drones, which says the following:

PALMDALE, Calif., Dec. 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) Skunk Works® and XTEND collaborated to integrate the XTEND Operating System (XOS) into Skunk Works' MDCX™ autonomy platform, allowing simultaneous Command and Control (C2) of multiple classes of UAS, creating improved situational awareness for lower-level mission execution in joint all-domain C2 (JADC2) scenarios.

So, Lockheed and XTEND, a Florida-based AI defence company, put a new operating system on a drone.
