Re-imagining myself as an international man of mystery. Check out my playlist with the best new music: & 🍏 shrankit.in/vg700 and my monthly radio show:
My fav new album this week is the untitled debut of Helado Tropical, a joining of forces by Helado Negro (been a fan of his for years) and Reyna Tropical (who I was unfamiliar with). Well-crafted, subtle pop duets in Spanish, not far from HN’s own sound. heladotropical.bandcamp.com/album/helado...
Also, if you missed it two years ago, do try and see Uberto Pasolini's The Return, with great performances by Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus and Juliette Binoche as Penelope.
Just came across this one in Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant: Graaf Vuilnisbakgezicht.
My fav new album this week is Synoptic Audio, the sixth and last (under this name) from “ex-American” musician and author Speaker Music. It connects radical African-American music from jazz to footwork in experimental, futuristic and kinetic electronic music speakermusic.bandcamp.com/album/synopt...
Watched Glen Matlock make a whole documentary about being the boring one (complimentary) in the Sex Pistols with I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would love to see a good doc about John Joseph Lydon someday.
My Echobox.radio show from yesterday is archived here: www.echobox.radio/shows/heavy-... Listen to me play the most exciting new music I was able to gather. Playlist:
When I try to post the album title, I get an error message from Bluesky. But alt text works!
My fav new album this week is by ⣎⡇ꉺლ༽இ•̛)ྀ◞ ༎ຶ ༽ৣৢ؞ৢ؞ؖ ꉺლ AKA Four Tet, his first under this alias. 5 of its 8 tracks have been previously released, from trippy house to trippy hop to full on bangers and ambient. Despite the obscure font, it is anything but inaccessible. 00000ooooo.bandcamp.com/album/--5
My fav new album this week is Inward Eye, the psychedelic and krautrock-driven second album from Oakland-based pop producer, musician and singer Spacemoth. She knows how to build an irresistible groove and expand it even further. ssspacemoth.bandcamp.com/album/inward...
Not only was this new release wrongly uploaded to the account of one of my favourite Canadian house producers, apparently a generic "GenerativeAI" is now a normal songwriting credit?
My fav new album this week is Best in the Game Mixtape by veteran grime collective Roll Deep, their first in 14 years and a magnificent return to form after crossing over to unlistenable pop rap in the early ’10s. All that and no Wiley in sight, fortunately. rolldeep.bandcamp.com/album/best-i...
My fav new album this week is Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive! by the Baltimore-to-Berlin band Horse Lords, who make playing avant-garde music sound fun, funky and exciting. It rocks, it skronks and it employs centuries old folk singing. horselords.bandcamp.com/album/demand...
It's a beautiful day to listen my Echobox.radio show from last Friday, two hours of top new tunes at www.echobox.radio/shows/heavy-... Playlist:
I got an estimate of 66,000 -- but I'm Dutch 🇳🇱. Niet slecht, toch? Didn't get obsequious, enervate, orthography, absquatulate, ucalegon, hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, mumpsimus, fartlek defenestrate, nudiustertian and houghmagandy. vocabowl-870366514258.us-west1.run.app
My fav new album (5 tracks, 32 minutes) this week is Tsa Sgido by the South African 🇿🇦 producer Djy Ora, whose January release was already my favourite amapiano album of the year so far. He’s done it again, in other words, just a half hour shorter. These snare drums! open.spotify.com/album/1T1kvi...
My fav new album this week is Detour by Kim Petras, an abrasive pop record that delivers where so much hyperpop does not. The production stunts and accounts for many of the thrills, but don’t underestimate how much emotional intensity KP adds to these songs. open.spotify.com/album/1sWzJ2...
Very good Whatever The Weather performance by Loraine James in Amsterdam tonight, great immersive sound that you can’t get at home plus it even smelled nice in the room!
The Harry Styles refugee camp outside Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena, 8.5 hours before showtime at 29° C.
My fav new alum this week is Entropy and Energy by the English DJ/producer Basic Rhythm. His take on drum 'n bass is crisp and focused, taking inspiration mainly from the 1996-99 era (from Krust to Optical). Beat switches and catchy basslines keep it playful. basicrhythm.bandcamp.com/album/entrop...
Going to see Top Gun for the first time ever in a few minutes. Hope it’s entertaining.
Flea in very fine form (despite having a very bad day for undisclosed personal reasons) in Amsterdam tonight, with stellar Honora band
My fav new album this week is Walkman by Rotterdam’s 🇳🇱 Speedy J, who continues to push (electronic) music into uncharted territory 35+ years into his career. 90 minutes of sound manipulation that are exciting, beautiful, unlistenable, never boring or predictable. speedyj.bandcamp.com/album/walkman
Listen to me play some great new music from Moodymann, Spacemoth, Iceage, Powell, Helado Negro, Aldous Harding, Appleblim, D'Athiz, Gyrofield, Martyn, The Field, Katatonic Silentio, Jump Source and others in my Heavy Rotation show on Echobox.radio from last Friday: www.echobox.radio/shows/heavy-...
Best part or the Billie Eilish concert film was the fans talking to camera about how much she means to them, I could watch a whole movie of that. The dog hugging was also good!
My fav new album this week is Train on the Island by the New Zealand artist Aldous Harding, her fifth. Although instantly recognizable (love her and producer John Parish’s minimalist approach), her songs are becoming ever more enigmatic and dream-like. aldousharding.bandcamp.com/album/train-...
Having lunch besides Sun Moon Lake on vacation in Taiwan and they’re having Can and Broadcast on the playlist. Someone must have told them I was coming.
