Last week, the @TucsonAgenda criticized a local elected for how they were handling the press. We used the term "Trumpian" to describe the behavior. Today, ICE essentially decided to say "hold my beer" when it put out this press release (below), demanding that we use the entire thing.
I ducked out after the speeches were over, but didn’t wrap up the thread. 🧵 Thanks for everyone who read my posts.
How many times has President Trump been mentioned? So far, only twice. Need three more for my bingo card.
A #AZ06 rally featuring the official democratic nominee for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, JoAnna Mendoza JoAnna w/ Sen Mark Kelly, Gabby Giffords, Gov. Katie Hobbs, AG Kris Mayes, and Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva has more than 100 people waiting is triple degree temps to get in.
This is a full blown training for observers, including working with tribal officials that ensure every vote is counted.
There are a handful of posters just next to the stage - definitely not brought here by the candidates - that have a resistance vibe.
Both the House and Senate races are contested. Rep. Alma Hernandez is running as a slate. In terms of her slate, Sally Ann Gonzales is not here, but Genoveva Diaz is here.
This is what it looks like when you cover #Tucson politics in the summer.
Former U.S. Transportation Secretary @petebuttigieg.bsky.social has canceled his trip to #Tucson on Sunday. He was going to attend a rally for #AZ06 Democratic candidate @joannamendoza.com. No official reason was given for the cancellation.
𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 Good evening, #Tucson. I'll be live-blogging from the #PimaSupes meeting shortly for the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social.
I’ll explain what this has to do with the Governor’s race in tomorrow’s @tucsonagenda.bsky.social.
Welcome to the #TucsonCouncil at night. Staff is hoping to get out by 10 pm.
Several people are here tonight asking the #TucsonCouncil to sign off on an appeal of its own zoning examiner, who gave TEP a variance to avoid under grounding utility lines at a substation.
For the subscribers of the @tucsonagenda.bsky.social, thanks to those who weighed in on which meeting I should attend tonight. (#PimaSupes is meeting right now too.)
𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 Hi, I’m back at the #TucsonCouncil and attending their night meeting.
We haven't gotten to the meat of the presentation, but here is a preview of what the county is struggling with financially. A lot seem to be tied to federal policies, although masked in some bureaucratic language. "Geopolitical concerns" = a war in Middle East, causing a spike in energy prices.
Bharathan opted to protest peacefully and sat on the table in front of the supervisors. (Sound on.) He refused to leave after his time expired and was removed by law enforcement. Chairwoman Allen took a short break as he was being removed.
On another note, the Pima County Board of Supervisors have gone into executive session. I'll be right back.
𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 Hi, #Tucson. I am taking a detour to my usual Tuesday night seat watching the #TucsonCouncil. Instead. I’ll be at the #SouthTucsonCouncil. It’s been a long time but it’s good to cover a meeting in South Tucson.
If you are a local government wonk, here is where they post (most) of the documents tied to tonight's meeting. Most? Yeah sometimes there are no documents attached to agenda items. This item, for example, is just an update on the hiring process for the county's next County Administrator .......
Tonight's meeting is the first in the renovated Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting room. It looks like they removed some chairs to fit the new table and fence for the #PimaSupes. Please send your fencing-them-in memes to Joe@TucsonAgenda.com
𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗 Welcome to #PimaSupes after dark. (Yeah, the sun hasn't set but you get it.)
