Friends at ASA in NYC: if you like graphic arts and history, get to the Poster House museum. On now: posters from Black vaudeville and cinema (upstairs) and from NY during the AIDS crisis (downstairs)
On the one hand, I’m happy we’ve gotten to this point with The Economist’s airport crowd. On the other, if the public seig-heiling and murder-advocacy hasn’t been enough to answer this already, I don’t know what to tell you.
The implication is that this is due to a decline in people taking in-person drivers’ ed classes….the numbers don’t show that but I’d buy it! This young person quote kinda broke me (tho to be fair she passed and seems v diligent and responsible):
The article is careful to say that it’s not just young people (and in fact 16-18 yo are doing a bit better) but hooo boy this stat…
Im not 100% certain what happens here, but it can’t be as great as it is in my imagination. (Limerick City, Ireland)
I cannot believe this world has got me agreeing with Sepp fucking Blatter
Remember when scholars would argue with Julian Go about the concept of American imperialism? Seems settled now!
Oh friend... the final was 5 goals to nil and Norwich are fighting their way out of relegation zone currently.
From @startribune.com comparing size of CPB/ICE surge in Minnesota to the 10 largest metro police departments.
Day 2 of all day/all night helicopters in St Paul MN. Door to door ICE raids. I’ve been saving this magic for 30 years but it might be time.
“Imagine…a world…of possibilities beyond cynical instrumentalism! You don’t … have to bet on Gavin Newsome!”
All I can think of is the lame “2000 Quatluus on the newcomers” aliens from Star Trek. Have we really fallen this far?
We’ve got malaise, we’ve got stagflation, and apparently even crabs are returning. The 70s are so back, baby!
I’ve seen so many call this style “cynical” which just doesn’t make sense to me. “Drunkass” — joyous, fluid, but with big potential downside risk of crash out — is so much better.
University of Minnesota hot take: Williamson Hall is a glorious modernist underground concrete oddball. I wish my department would move here. It’s as close to Vancouver cool as we are likely to get. Ofc everyone here hates it.
Nitpicking in an otherwise very well researched and useful article, but it’s an important nit — it was a *neo-Nazi* gunman in Norway, killing kids in a *pokotically leftist* summer camp
