Album 4: Controversy Title track, track one gives reason to seek out album versions of well known singles. (Prince said that he felt all albums should have a song that’s the title of the album and it should be the first song of the album in most cases. He did stick to this rule quite frequently.)

Playing this really spotlights some insane contract disparities between players at different stages in their careers. This was the best lineup I got but could you imagine if they were signed at these salaries in the same year with each other?
More highlights: Early messages of counter thinking to dominant beliefs, values and attitudes, notably on Uptown and Partyup. (Thought I was going to mention Head and Sister, didn’t you?) Lowlight: The crazy synths near the middle end of Head really date the song. Otherwise it could be covered now.
Album 3: Dirty Mind Highlights: Damn that title track!! The layered vocals and synths! I could listen to an album’s worth of jams and remixes around this song alone. When You Were Mine has always been a favourite of mine. That bass hook! It’s downright criminal that it wasn’t released as a single!
Album 2: Prince Highlight: The two “I” hits…I Wanna Be Your Lover and I Feel For You plus the Bambi guitar work. Lowlight: Still Waiting…I used to think this sounded silly but thanks to the book’s description, I can see it for what he was trying for, the doo wop ditty. No longer a true low light.
Highlights: Soft and Wet, I’m Yours Lowlight: So Blue’s synth horns kind of makes it sound like a K.K. Slider song.
