#NowPlaying Right in the middle of Van’s incredible run of ‘80s albums, and this is one of the best, IMO, which is a high bar.
#NowPlaying Enjoyed the New Symphonia album very much the other day, so some more live Caravan now. Great stuff, it really is.
Tonight. One of the many, many Miles and Coltrane tribute gigs in their centenary year. Haven’t seen Blanchard before. At the Cadogan Hall, which is air-conditioned, thank goodness, on this 35C day.
#NowPlayin Late ‘80s PMG is Pat at his peak, for me. Just loved this era. The sound quality on this radio broadcast is top notch too.
#NowPlaying My limited exposure to Herbie Mann has revealed a real mixed bag, some highly enjoyable, some definitely less so. But the live album on this twofer I bought yesterday is excellent. Haven’t played Mellow yet.
Sophie E-B is very good indeed. So much more to her than just that one song. In case you haven’t heard them, these two albums are terrific.
Our local Oxfam has just taken delivery of a Penguin collection, by the looks of it.
Blue Note do love a birthday so I bet his centenary next year will be marked with all sorts of nice stuff, including, with a bit of luck, exactly what you’re after. I bought the cheapest secondhand copy of Out To Lunch I could find, just so I could frame the sleeve.
#NowPlaying Fantastic compilation. I’d have loved to see her in about 1978.
#NowPlaying Great album, and a fantastic sleeve. I’m almost tempted to buy it on vinyl just to have the cover framed on my wall.
The Waterboys on the BBC’s Scotland v Brazil coverage. Hats off to whoever chose that. @mickpuck.bsky.social
#NowPlaying Bright and breezy, summery sounds. Top band, of course, as it’s early 1970s CTI.
