Canadians love being told what they know. I think you underestimate the level of distrust up here. Nearly 60% of Canadians consider America to be our top global threat. Trumpism is over 10 years old now, that doesn’t feel very temporary at all. Canadians don’t trust USA voters can figure it out.
It’s a tough one. Eby is being a jerk, but the NDP are the only thing keeping us from a super-racist asshole BC Conservative government. So I want to yell at the guy, but not if it helps Conservatives. BC cannot afford a right-wing government, we see what the UCP has done to Alberta.
Canadians should be careful what they wish for! You don’t know what you got til it’s gone! We would all be *A LOT* poorer as a nation with a giant east-west hole in the middle, it could easily lead to the whole national project disintegrating. Stay or go, in BC we are stuck with Alberta.
Alberta *is already* producing record levels of energy, increasing more under Trudeau than Harper. The Feds haven’t stymied Alberta energy, they built a tidewater pipeline for $34 Billion taxpayer dollars that Harper couldn’t.
That’s just a five ton, we have cab-overs this large in NA. The GMC T Series is very popular and can be fitted for many box sizes.
I find this unconvincing. The paper is again from before Great Recession & covid. The authors note several irreconcilable differences between the 1880s & 2004. I find the lack of modern examples more compelling than ‘deflation may have been good or neutral 140 yrs ago during the gold standard.’
Interesting paper, it pre-dates both Covid and the Great Recession. My claim isn’t that deflation means depression, it’s that system-wide deflation isn’t common or desirable. Surviving deflation is rarely a good thing, “the lost decade” in Japan came with the highest G7 debt / GDP ever recorded.
The distinction doesn’t matter much. Symptom or cause, deflation is not an attribute of a strong US economy. Deflation slows demand, why make a big purchase when next week the price will be lower? Deflation makes debt harder to pay down, decreases wages, and leads to increased unemployment.
Resist the idea that the Premier can do anything she wants, or that the constitution doesn’t matter or nobody is enforcing it bc it simply ain’t true. The rule of law matters & public faith in that is the bedrock of Canadian society. Don’t give Dani powers she doesn’t have, fascists count on that.
I dont think that is the case. The implications of the ruling yesterday are that the premier cannot move forward with a referendum without consulting with First Nations. She will appeal but I don’t see it being overturned. This is all before we address constitutionality where she will also lose.
Great news. If I am reading the decision properly, the court quashed the CEO decision to hold a citizen referendum petition but declined to rule on the constitutionality.
