Several specimens of the rare and IUCN-red listed as Near Threatened Pseudorhizina sphaeospora found in old-growth deciduous stands at Lake Duparquet teaching and research station 🍄 @iucnfungi.bsky.social
Very happy to see that this picture is featured on the cover of Volume 33(2) of Northeastern Naturalist, echoing our paper that can be found open-access here: doi.org/10.1656/045.... 🍄🐞 @michieldegroot.bsky.social @dhaelewa.bsky.social @teamlaboul.bsky.social
Today, with nearly 20 representatives from conservation organizations and the scientific community, we are joining our voices to ensure fungi receive the recognition they deserve in the language and discussions surrounding biodiversity conservation in Quebec. ▶️ www.ledevoir.com/opinion/idee...
📣 New paper! We showed @inaturalist.bsky.social can be used for “next-level” applications to document the occurrence of Hesperomyces harmoniae on its host, using Québec as a case study. ▶️ www.eaglehill.us/NENAonline/a... @michieldegroot.bsky.social @dhaelewa.bsky.social @teamlaboul.bsky.social
Happy to share that the 11th contribution to the Fungal Systematics and Evolution series published by Sydowia is now online! Really glad to have had the chance to co-edit it with @dhaelewa.bsky.social and Irmgard Krisai-Greilhuber. Enjoy the read! www.sydowia.at/syd77/syd77....
Just arrived at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi and already met some incredible people. Now, let's make sure fungi get the global conservation spotlight they deserve! 🍄 @mycosphaera.bsky.social @naturequebec.bsky.social #IUCNcongress
I’m currently preparing two talks on fungal #conservation in #Québec and I came across this interesting result while analyzing @inaturalist.bsky.social data: only about ~24% of #fungi observations in the province fall within protected areas. Food for thought!
Thrilled to announce that the special issue on fungal #conservation that @cfemycolab.bsky.social and I are co-editing for the @britmycolsoc.org.uk c.org.uk journal Fungal Ecology is open for submissions! www.sciencedirect.com/special-issu...
After collecting 490 soil samples for carbon stocks and fungal eDNA analysis, surveying fallen woody debris over a distance of 1.4 km, and measuring over 1,000 living and dead trees, the second part of our field season is finally over! Two long and demanding months, but we did it! 🌲🍄
Very happy to have had the chance to present at the 5th Annual @canfunnet.bsky.social Conference yesterday about the state of fungal conservation in Quebec/Canada, and how citizen science-based organizations like @mycosphaera.bsky.social can help bridge gaps in fungal knowledge and conservation 🍄
Very happy to share that we have described three new species of Cortinarius from New Caledonia found in Nothofagus aequilateralis forests: C. caeloculus, C. luteigemellus and C. perpensus. ➡️ Just published in the latest Fungal Planet description sheets: doi.org/10.3114/pers...
📣 Field season is on! This year, we are exploring the links between variations in carbon stocks—in living biomass, dead organic matter, and soil—and belowground fungal communities across a gradient of old-growth boreal forests in northwestern Quebec🌲🍄
📣 Just out: a comprehensive overview of the orders within the phylum Ascomycota, where—together with @michieldegroot.bsky.social, Aimée Blondelle, Michał Gorczak and @dhaelewa.bsky.social—we wrote about Laboulbeniomycetes. ➡️ www.mycosphere.org/pdf/MYCOSPHE... @teamlaboul.bsky.social
Registration and abstract submission for the 5th Annual CanFunNet Fungal Biology Conference (online) are now open! 🍄 @canfunnet.bsky.social ▶️ From August 6 to 8 ▶️ Theme “From Local to Global” Submit your presentation by May 30th!! canfunnet.conferences.uwo.ca/registration Spread the word!
Happy to have been able to present my PhD project at the @cef-cfr.bsky.social annual conference and connect with other fungi enthusiasts!
I had the chance this morning to be invited by Sonali Karnick on CBC Listen's All In a Weekend to talk about #fungi, their importance for our #ecosystems and daily lives, the #threats they face, and #citizen science. Listen to the interview here: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-... #conservation #mycology
Since March 27, 2025, 1,300 species of #fungi are now listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species! 🍄📢 ⬇️📈 I made two slides to illustrate how the number of assessed and threatened fungal species has changed over time. Another important milestone for fungal #conservation!
Happy #TaxonomistAppreciationDay! 🍄🦠🐞🌿 A massive thank you to everyone contributing to the accumulation of taxonomic and naturalist knowledge. Your contribution is truly invaluable — #taxonomy is the foundation upon which all our #biodiversity knowledge rests. Let's never forget that!

📢 "Quebec must also rely on fungi to conserve biodiversity" – a letter signed by more than 70 mycologists and biologists from Quebec and beyond, urging the Quebec government to make fungal conservation a priority🍄 Here's the call (in French): www.ledevoir.com/opinion/idee...
