@jornreinsel
I am just a wave in the sea of spacetime. Let’s get weird. I host bar trivia and dabble in obsessions; these days it’s vaporwave. All Cats Are Beautiful. Trans rights or GTFO. Miss you Franklin.
“あなたのために” by 夢のチャンネル Aloe City LPs are artifacts at this point and sometimes go for $200+, but this one’s still midmarket. From the cover art, I was expecting something slushy but this was more bright; a little hazy, a little mall, occasionally goofy, even utopian virtual at times. A fun listen.
Getting better at Smush (by @hankgreen.bsky.social ); I feel like hitting 1000 points is doable.
I don’t want them to fix it. I think kids *should* cry in the water temple
Me putting on the new TURQUOISEDEATH LP “Se Bueno” after the huge storm: Huh, it’s nice to hear some birds outside after all that rain. I wonder why I can’t hear the record I just put on? Better turn the volume up… The birds got louder.
Only one person so far in this thread has even mentioned the most foul soda but I will set the record straight…it’s North Carolina’s own trash can of syrup and self-loathing, cheerwine
Spinning: “The Molokai Compendium” by Nmesh If ADHD could be condensed into sound. A sprawling journey of shifting moods and exploration, collage and snapped necks, tongue permanently in cheek and deadly serious about it. Nmesh shows what’s possible when you have a voracious ear. Go listen.
Spinning: “濃霧” (thick fog) by desert sand feels warm at night I brought this to Flamingo Fest and got it signed. This album is rich and full and warm, but it’s spiked every now and then with moments of unease; a blanket you can’t stay under forever. It’s bittersweet but so worth the journey.
Whatever else might happen at Flamingo Fest tonight, the emotional heart of the show is happening right now. ❤️ 회사AUTO ❤️
The oureoboros thus consumes itself and our world will be reborn corrupted
Spinning: “MEGA” by Blank Banshee The vapor scene has coalesced around barber beats these days, so a still-sealed copy of MEGA feels like unearthing the Dead Sea scrolls. The sounds are sharp and agile, somehow tense and airy at once. Exquisite. Shout out to @rtenios.bsky.social for the rec!
Saw al do an all-originals set at the Apollo a few years ago and it was amazing, but I always regretted not seeing his full stage show. Fixing that tonight! Shoutie to my uncle for hooking me up with the ticket
Clearly Spelling Bee is not a fan of Sonic Youth’s 1992 tour de force “Dirty”
Spinning: “OASYS ♁ 博物館” by 猫 シ Corp. An old cat corp gem, been waiting for this vinyl for so long and it’s exactly what I needed. A soothing, dreamy blend of mallsoft and ambient; maybe it’s just me but it might be even better at 33 1/3. Note the locked groove on side A! A vapor classic.
Uhhhhh I caught a random show at a random bar tonight and got my mind fucking blown by this band Duchess. Notes of Slint, Helmet, Chat Pile…serious chops, brutal. Only their second show! Catch them if you can
Spinning: “無原罪の解放 + Introduction to Riddles of The Revered Lady” by Immaculate Emancipation Two EPs on one LP! Always the best. This feels airy, a bit spiritual; I wouldn’t have batted an eye if this was playing when I visited the Canal St Buddhist temple. Light a candle and float to this.
Spinning: “SHARK 2 パラサイトシングル” by GAMESHARK™ I really expected this album to be a shitpost in vinyl form, but it ended up being one of my favorite vapor records. Almost triphop at times, but it takes so many left turns and never leans on atmosphere to carry a track. Tasty, understated weirdness.
Spinning: “Magical Realism” by MindSpring Memories MSM is known for deeply immersive slushy soundscapes with a touch of new age sheen, and this album lives up to the rep, drowning every pleasure center in dissociative wooziness. Hard to believe the creator also makes prog metal! What a world.
Now spinning: “Intrinsic Value” by LowXY Bought this alongside some vapor LPs but this is more reminiscent of like a vocals-free early Burial; just speeding through rainy London streets at 2am, low but intense, skittering beat patterns and weaving synths making my foot heavier with every bar.
