My poetry student Kristen Nimr made this photo portrait of me at my recent poetry reading in NYC. I'll be giving more events this autumn, and I hope to meet more of you out there in the world.
Thank you to everyone who came out to the reading in NYC this evening. It was wonderful to meet so many of you in person. These signed broadsides of one of my poems (designed by Chris Dean) will be available soon, and a video clip of the reading will be posted shortly. Love you all.
I'll be reading my poems and signing books in NYC this evening. 6 PM, Howl @ 6 E 1st Street. Everyone is welcome & I hope to see you there! ❤️
One night, after trying to write about this troubled world, after crossing out pages and pages of what I'd written, I fell asleep, dreamt of being visited by the great poet Rumi, and woke with this poem.
This is the best email a writer could get, and I treasure it more than any award or review.
I was going through old boxes, and I found this unpublished poem of mine I'd written in the back of a textbook, probably in my twenties, when I was in and out of mental health facilities. I've typed it up, in the hope that it might help someone out there.
I'm posting this today, on July 4, because some people in this world do not have the luxury of knowing the explosions they're hearing are just fireworks—and because we have work to do until everyone is free.
My whole mission is to break down the barriers within ourselves that lead to the barriers between each other. Thank you, Kelly, for inviting me to chat. Remember, everyone, your life is not a crime. ❤️
Thank you, @kellyclarksontv.bsky.social, for amplifying the voices of teachers and writers at a time when we need our shared humanity more than ever. ❤️
A writer's greatest advocates are his translators, so I'm deeply moved to receive a new selection of my poems translated into Italian by Pietro Federico. You can get a copy of this lovely bilingual edition here: www.edizioniensemble.it/prodotto/il-...
I'm astonished by the response to my poem "Instructions for Having a Soul." Here it is in my voice, from one human to another:
Thank you to The Dewdrop for discussing and featuring my work today: thedewdrop.org/2026/04/28/j...
Thinking about all the people around the world—especially the children—who have to live under the constant threat of violence, and whose names will never be in any newspaper.
I really think the Artemis mission has made most people feel that this is what humanity has to do:
