Maddie’s Secret (2025) Dir John Early Pushes so far past artifice, caricature, stereotypes, cringe and affect in its bid to both MOCK and BE a LIFETIME melodrama that it atomizes the barrier between satire and authenticity and actually becomes something very special and earnest. Early is amazing.

Disclosure Day (2026) Dir Steven Spielberg Wish this was just the story of Blunt’s character and her journey, but it's packed w/ shitty sci-fi tomfoolery, bad CGI animals, theological BS, car commercial action sequences & huge dollops of overwrought Spielbergian emotional excess and sentimentality.

Backrooms (2026) Dir Kane Parsons Certainly more conceptually ambitious and visually engaging than OBSESSION. Gorgeous production design, and the actors are trying to make this work, but honestly, this is a very, very labored and overwritten movie that too often was just boring and un-fun for me.

Obsession (2025) Dir Curry Barker My kingdom for one scene lensed from Nikki’s experience. But that would’ve been a movie about losing yourself to some larger force, a movie about being groomed into an abusive relationship, instead of a movie about how scary and “suffocating” a woman’s love can be.

Is God Is (2026) Dir Aleshea Harris A violent quirky revenge fantasy with two awesome female leads and some super interesting overtones about genetically inherited psychopathy. If that sounds cool to you, you should definitely watch this, cause that’s what it is and it does it well.

Blue Heron (2025) Dir Sophy Romvari Been waiting 6 yrs for @sophyromvari.bsky.social to make a feature. A haunting, meditative, floating experience about the inadequate view of the world we have when we’re young; and how impossible it is once we're older to look back on that time with any clarity.

Project Hail Mary (2026) Dir Phil Lord, Christopher Miller It never felt "epic" and its premise is very stupid, but it’s nice to have a star vehicle's manipulations actually feel charming and harmless. Plus, science heroes are my favorite kind of heroes, so I'm a sucker for this shit.

The Running Man (2025) Dir Edgar Wright The capitalist psyop to keep us distracted w/ performative egalitarian messaging movies so we don’t actually invest our minds and bodies in the IRL class war is going very well for our corporate overlords indeed. An empty instantly forgettable flick.

Bāhubali: The Epic (2025) Dir S. S. Rajamouli Very dope. I love a mythic fairytale flick & this is some epic heroic shit cast in maximalist kitsch. I would hate every creative choice on its own, but together, played for such enthusiasm, such monumental gestures & not an ounce of cynicism... sold!

Palestine 36 (2025) Dir Annemarie Jacir Societal depiction of Palestine before partition, from upper classes to the villages, is well drawn. Period setting is wonderfully evoked. Colorized historical street photography used is extraordinary. It’s a story that needs to be told.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (2025) Dir Mary Bronstein A great performance from Byrne. The movie is singularly dire and one note, suggesting we’re inside her disoriented and delusional mind state. The only truth we can be certain of is that this character is overwhelmed and psychologically isolated.

Hoppers (2026) Dir Daniel Chong I really can't help but feel that this kind of soft environmentalist messaging & the idea that the system will work if we can all just get along is corporations cashing checks while Rome burns. I know it's just a kid's movie, but it feels empty of any real value.

Pillion (2025) Dir Harry Lighton I loved this movie about finding your kink, finding the line with your kink, and learning when it’s emotionally healthy to take a day off from your kink. It’s earnestly felt, feels authentically observed, and is full of funny grace and genuine care for its subject.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (2025) Dir Matt Johnson Making this feel so much like street improv when it’s actually a meticulous trick featuring invisible effects, flash organization, misdirect, opportunity exploiting, and re-recreation must’ve been a massive undertaking. Super super fun.

No Other Choice (2025) 어쩔수가없다 Dir Park Chan-wook Caustic comedy about finding worth in a world that’s devaluing humanity. If you want stay afloat you’re going to have to become less human too. This is what they want. They want us to devalue life like they do. They want us to fight to the death.

Send Help (2026) Dir Sam Raimi I’m sending a message back in time to eleven-year old Josh who’s watching EVIL DEAD for the fifth time on VHS. Listen, Josh, things get really hard for us once we turn fifty, but I promise, Sam Raimi is still out there working, and he still knows how to bring us joy.

It Was Just an Accident (2025) Un simple accident Dir Jafar Panahi Panahi's most overtly angry, in which he accuses the Islamic Republic of torture and depicts several characters as expressions of Iranian society in conflict with each other over how to process their trauma, grief, and rage.

Cover-Up (2025) Dir Laura Poitras, Mark Obenhaus Ornery Seymour Hersh is one of the most important journalists of the later 20th and early 21st centuries. He's gotten it right enough times to shake the highest pillars of power, and he's gotten it wrong enough to reveal himself as flawed & human.

Mistress Dispeller (2024) Dir Elizabeth Lo A great doc from China. The people on display, the complexity of being in a relationship over the long haul, the frustrations of growing older and longing for youth (even as youth pines for something more stable and mature) all of it so profoundly human.

Cutting Through Rocks (2025) Dir Sara Khaki, Mohammad Reza Eyni Free Iran. Women hold up half the sky. Men are too emotional to lead. A great doc about a hard headed female politician in a world where men hold all the power. The drive of the young Iranian women here to be educated made me cry.

Marty Supreme (2025) Dir Josh Safdie I hate that Trump Immigration apologist, lying asshole, and evil Canadian AI baron Kevin O'Leary is in this movie and that's why, even though I enjoyed the flick a lot, it can go fuck itself and you shouldn't support it. Also, seems like Josh Safdie is a creep.
