Look, @steveshilstone.bsky.social I have found a glen of triffids…
“Death baffles her, every time she brushes against it…how there is no bargaining to be done…the inarguable force of their absence.” My #SundaySentence this week from the totally devastating Land by Maggie O’Farrell. This novel reached all the parts of me that I needed it to.💔🇮🇪
You’re absolutely correct, @pacificgaselectric.bsky.social , it doesn’t have to. Y’all could use your fortune to update your infrastructure and move toward renewable energy options instead of making your customers jump through enrollments, etc.
This…is batting practice. God, I miss defense in baseball. 🤦🏼♀️
My #SundaySentence (well, two) for this week comes from one of two epigraphs in Maria Reva’s novel Endling, the epigraph in mention here being attributed to Chus Pato: “People don’t live history, they live their lives. History is a catastrophe that passes over them.” #Booksky #Ukraine 🐌📚🇺🇦
“Tell me about a complicated man. Muse, tell me how he wandered and was lost…” Was thinking about this Emily Wilson translated Odyssey #SundaySentence this week with a postcard I had found in a bookstore years ago…
I know this isn’t a popular choice in memoriam but one of my favorite Sam Neill roles was his supporting role in The Horse Whisperer. Loved him in everything else, yes, but loved his quiet presence in that film…as well as his portrayal of a city slicker when in real life he was just as ranch as Bob.
Drifting back to Bonnie Tyler’s passing this week for my #SundaySentence , lyrics by Jim Steinman of his song Total Eclipse of the Heart, because this line seems to fit the world, ongoing: “We’re living in a powder keg and giving off sparks.”
Smh…this lack of defense in the MLB is starting to wear on me…
Not reading that article because…(from the frickin Apple Store app…)
“I’m furious with death.” Geraldine Brooks in her memoir Memorial Days #SundaySentence #Booksky 📚
Knock it off, guys, or you’ll give the Christmas cactus ideas. 🤨😂
“The craziness is receding but no clarity is taking its place.” Re-reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion and finding that #SundaySentence for this week. #Booksky 📚
My #SundaySentence this week comes from the Josiah and the Bonnevilles song Just One Break: “Maybe you could roll that dice one more time see if the number’s strong and you were alright all along.”
Winslow Homer’s The Bright Side, taken at the deYoung in San Francisco, earlier this year during Black History Month.
In case you are wondering what magical place in Denver I’m staying in, here’s the entrance to the rabbit hole…
Hey, #SouthwestAirlines , I kinda have my heart set on seeing a baseball game tonight in Denver, so can we stop bumping this back on a clear day, please? 😐
Shocker, it’s summer, @pacificgaselectric.bsky.social . Get your sorry selves out of the dark ages and find cheaper ways to provide power, instead of making your customers pay for heat waves and data centers.
“Entering the shop could feel daunting…Like someone who doesn’t know how to fix a flat sheepishly entering a bike shop” My #SundaySentence this week describes the iconic New York bookshop Gotham Book Mart, from The Bookshop by Evan Friss.📚❤️ #Booksky
