I help academics protect time for writing and resist overwork. Meaningfulness matters. You are more than your job. I also make things with textiles, read romances, sing alto in a choir. Subscribe to my newsletter: JoVanEvery.co.uk/newsletter
I also have the standard style and these are NOT great for either long walks or stones in your shoes. I’ve given myself a blister on my baby toe once. They are cooler than the others and fine for mooching around the campsite
I can’t remember the exact name but they look like this and have the word hiking in the name. There is also a variation for trail running. Might be Grandview but I might be misremembering that.
My view for the next few days. Morecambe Bay. May wander over to Leighton Moss RSPB or go for a walk or two. Might just read books.
We are picking this much every other day. Raspberries, strawberries, red currants, alpine strawberries
Saw coot chicks at Clumber Park National Trust this weekend but no good captures unfortunately. I did get a good shot of this coot (no chicks) on her nest though. #BirdOfTheDay #YourChoice
An excuse to share this rather handsome juvenile gull from the Camargue trip in April. That’s the Mediterranean in the background. #BirdOfTheDay #WorldOceansDay
Ooh I have one for this from the trip in April a pair of black winged stilts. Photo taken in the Parc Ornotholigique de Camargue in early April. (I’m not really much of a photographer. Taken with my iPhone.)
Last chance to join me TOMORROW for planning support that helps you get more writing done and feel more in control despite the dystopian conditions... academicwritingstudio.co.uk/plan-your-ac...
Brambles people had a late night yesterday so she came for a sleepover at our house.
It's entirely possible, but by this point in the year, you may look back at whatever you thought you were going to do last July, and you're like, "Oh my goodness..." I don't want you to feel behind. You are where you are. Support is available: academicwritingstudio.co.uk/plan-your-ac...
It can be particularly difficult to protect time for writing when transitioning from teaching, to grading, to summer break. Committing to a session of A Meeting With Your Writing can help you keep writing going. academicwritingstudio.co.uk/a-meeting-wi...
Is this you? Support group available: academicwritingstudio.co.uk/plan-your-ac...
As you transition from teaching, through grading, into the holiday break you might feel unsettled, struggle to focus, or feel more tired. Breathe. Transitions mean change of routine, more decisions, and other messiness. You can do this! #TeamNoBurnout

I’m not much of a photographer but I’m on holiday in the Camargue and got some decent long neck photos This great grey heron in the Parc Ornotholigique de la Camargue for example. (Taken with my iPhone) #BirdOfTheDay

The panel had 2 parts. I finished the other quilt in the autumn and sent it to my friend Debbie.
Bad news: my overlocking foot is broken. Ordered a new one but can’t work in the shirt. Good news: there are many WIPs in my craft room. Sandwiched a quilt ready for quilting.
You probably know that planning helps. Yet you still struggle to do it. Or perfectly colour-coded plans often end up feeling pointless for reality we find ourselves in. Whether you opt for avoidant/procrastinate or perfectionist/overachieve (or both!) - planning often feels incredibly frustrating. 1
The problem with planning is there are always so many things that ~ might ~ happen between now & then that you cannot anticipate. Things always come up. Things might even go fully off the rails. That’s normal. Support should also be normal: academicwritingstudio.co.uk/plan-april-m...
When things are overwhelming it is even more important to pause and reflect on what you’ve done, and what is possible in the next day/week/month. If you’d like some journaling prompts focused on writing, I’m sending some to my free newsletter list on Friday. jovanevery.co.uk/newsletter/
I created A Meeting With Your Writing to help you protect time for writing but you can use it for any work that needs sustained focus. You can even come more than once a week, use 1 session for writing & 1 session for something else. academicwritingstudio.co.uk/a-meeting-wi...
There are different kinds of rest. For example, if you have been sitting at your desk doing heavy intellectual work, doing something physically demanding that occupies your brain just enough might be exactly the sort of “rest” you need.
