Raw number of immigrants in the US has been rising at the same rate since 1970, meanwhile in those same 55 years, the US has gone from 5% to 15% immigrant as a share of population. Where is the surge?

Support for gay marriage has gone up essentially unabated for 25 years. You really think Dems should "moderate" on this issue? Republicans haven't had success by becoming more moderate or meeting voters where they are. They've had success by *shaping public opinion* on things like immigration.
