Inspiring the next generation of leadership for the Santa Clarita Valley.
Arctic drilling is a poor investment. With skyrocketing costs and decaying infrastructure, these leases are pure liability. BP already walked away. Betting on the Refuge means betting on stranded assets. @conocophillips.bsky.social @exxonmobilcorp.bsky.social @aramco.bsky.social
Putin, Trump, Netanyahu, all those old bastards leading us back into wars we don’t want to fight. And who will pay the highest price? The young forced to fight and die. The poor who can’t afford increased costs of living. We will. Time for regime change, all across the world, starting at the top.
Susan, Alex Pretti’s mom, posts a photo on what would have been his 38th birthday. Love is your limitless power to make change in the world.
A gift from my cousins Ryan and Lan in Austin, this anthology features Lovecraft on a dozen pages, along with Tolkien, CS Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Robert E Howard and Weird Tales.
Nothing better than watching Die Hard on Christmas Eve with family (wife, daughter, mothers-in-law and brother-in-law). Alan Rickman is so fine in his breakout role. Nothing finer except perhaps a log burning on the fire while you watch Die Hard.
Every one of us is armed with the best tool imaginable. Bring yours to the fight!
Art Spiegelman spent 13 years writing and drawing Maus. After it was published in 1991, he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize and the Eisner Award. Did his masterpiece look backwards in time, or forward?
Brian Michael Bendis’ New Avengers chronicles the dramatic reformation of the team after Avengers Disassembled, processes the fallout of Civil War, and sets up Secret Invasion. Beautifully drawn by David Finch, Steve McNiven, Olivier Coipel, Mike Deodato, and others. Critical to my collection.
“Compromise when you can. Where you can't, don't. Even if everyone is telling you that something wrong is something right. Even if the whole world is telling you to move. It is your duty, to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye and say, ‘No ... you move.’”
My pick of the week is Marada the She-Wolf, the story of a warrior traveling the outskirts of the Roman Empire to deliver vengeance on the demons that ravaged her. Chris Claremont and John Bolton took a break from writing and drawing the X-Men Phoenix saga to deliver this graphic novel in 1982.
Good times at the #NoKings event today in Santa Clarita! Lots of woo-hoo’s, creative signs, and smiling people.
Oh hell no. We are not handing $500 million over to the broligarchs with zero control. Every senator should reject this stripping of state’s rights.
I know that wolves are responsible for the death of livestock every year. That fact does not entitle humans to hunt them to extinction.
Top-shelf today is the Invincible Iron Man series. In the Civil War aftermath, Norman Osborn takes over SHIELD intent on owning the database of registered superheroes. To protect it, Tony steals it, uploads a virus, and goes on the run, a fugitive deconstructing the tech in his suit and his mind.
Go to your local theater and catch the stage version. The full album plus some catalog faces, all performed by a live band and sung by Broadway-caliber actors. My teenage daughters ate it up!
His life story is just as amazing as his art. Standing up to fascists in his neighborhood, working with Fox Comics, Fawcett, DC, Marvel … and creating the visual language that we all enjoy today.
That stuff is pure gold! If you love it, then do yourself a favor and put Mark Evanier’s biography on your top shelf.
Our house is not part of the #HughesFire evacuation orders or warnings - yet - but our friends in Castaic are. We are monitoring the fire, air quality, and wind. That son of a bitch grew up fast. Stay vigilant, Santa Clarita!
