Years ago I started replying to keynote/symposia invitations with a provisional accept based on speaker diversity (I decline if ≥ 50% male speakers). Declines are rare but have happened. Receiving a follow-up email like this is so encouraging. 🙏 We CAN make a difference!
Does anyone know what this tool is for? The blade is sharp-ish as if for cutting.
Google Scholar Labs introduces natural language (presumably LLM-powered) searches for academic papers: scholar.google.com/scholar_labs... In my quick testing results are...mixed. Fine to identify this Peelle fellow as a top source but top papers are opinion articles not primary research articles.
I caught ~20% of my class cheating this semester which was disheartening. In case it's useful to anyone else here's the email I sent explaining the grade penalty. Aiming for "firm but kind" and (of course) honest. 🤷♂️
As we approach the end of teaching for many of us, might I humbly suggest including a custom survey in your classes to complement whatever your university makes you do. It lets you ask your own questions and also have easier access to the data (for example if you want to plot it yourself).
That was a big reason I never considered this move before. So far no one has complained (it's been less than 24 hours). For other assignments that I do on paper, though, I have a statement at the top, and two students who use laptops for writing told me so and it was no big deal at all.

I think it's weird when my employer asks me to donate money. 🤷♂️ But I usually contribute because we get "credit" for department participation and I try to be a team player. But I didn't know they would publish the AMOUNT of donations 😂
