The crisis of an old hegemony can open the road to the left – through organisation and struggle – or it can open the road to the far right – through fear, resentment, and scapegoating. Conditions do not speak for themselves; they must be interpreted, and the struggle over their interpretation is part of the struggle for social power. Great article from The Cut people admitting their struggling is a taboo on social media. We are all conditioned in the US to internalize our livelihood are our fault. Never mind the fact our lives are the result of oppressive systems across race, class, etc that moves like a well oiled machine

Great insight from @shineyezehuhh.bsky.social on the journalistic struggles with conducting anime interviews.

At my most sardonic, I find humor in the challenge of asking pertinent and provocative questions, given that the above process only yields questions like whether my interviewees liked the colors, shapes, and sounds they saw in a show. At my most exasperated, I ask myself what we are even doing here, grumble about how the integrity of my work is being compromised, and wonder whether I should just slide my keyboard to my interviewees so they can write it up themselves, since I’m a middleman whose journalistic purpose feels ground to dust.

Read Ken's report & then I read the State Department's 100 page pdf report on Cuba. I gotta say this is an incredible piece of mask off US imperialist propaganda. But anyway, a good historical analysis on this subject is Dr CBS' book Black Scare / Red Scare.

This Stanford report isn't shocking in the least. Would explain why multiple professional done resumes might as well be party confetti in this job market.

A new study surveyed the AI company Pymetrics and found that 15% of Asian applicants and 26% of Black applicants applied to jobs where the artificial intelligence tool appeared to be biased against their racial group.

"Hiring algorithms change lives and shape labor markets, but we lack empirical research into their impact on applicants.

Most prior work centers the perspective of employers, measuring whether an algorithm reflects employer preferences, reduces employer costs, and complies with employer-level employment discrimination law.

While important, the employer-centric perspective neglects the structural shifts to the labor market caused by algorithms. Algorithms not only influence hiring at each employer but also link outcomes across employers due
to shared dependence on the same vendor(s). Since an applicant’s employment status depends on the cumulative decisions of many employers, algorithmic monoculture may precipitate systemic exclusion from the labor market for some applicants. We discuss the relationship between our work and policy (§4.1) as well as key limitations
relevant to the interpretation of this work and the prospect of future work (§4.2)."

Always interesting to come across reports that back up why you, your peers & peoppe generally have enough job rejection emails to fill a book. Possible racism with the use of job application screening AI tools? A shocking revelation.

AI hiring tools used by large employers are repeatedly screening out some of the same job applicants, with researchers finding that Black and Asian candidates are disproportionately affected.

A Stanford-led study of 4mn job applications across 156 employers who used the Pymetrics hiring platform, which assesses people using a series of online games, found evidence of “systemic rejection” linked to the algorithms it used.
