My profile picture is my grandpa who wore that helmet on June 6, 1944 as we was storming the Omaha beachhead with the invasion of the second wave, in Normandy, France. Taking this heavily defended beach was a pivotal turning point in WWII.

I just finally bought a used copy of this book I’ve been meaning to get for years and the former owner of this copy was apparently the late “Ric” Cottam WYPR historian in Baltimore— I have freaking goosebumps right now!
