It still feels amazing and surreal that not only was I allowed to paint Captain Picard for MtG's upcoming Star Trek set, but I also got to go to Vegas for the card's reveal at ST:LV! Such an incredible and unbelievable honor.

I used a lot more acrylic inks on this one, letting the inks pour and run across the paper and then painting over the top of them once they dried. I really like the effect! "All That Will Grow" Watercolor, acrylic ink, gouache, and color pencils.

My d&d paladin gal is starting fresh in a new campaign so I redesigned her armor and it makes me very happy 😊

I ended up experimenting a lot with this one, pouring layers of ink washes over the watercolor and building up with pastels. I'm trying to get a look that is soft and textured but still has clear strong details in places. I haven't gotten it down yet quite the way I want, but this is a step closer!

Working on a new piece; thinking about star thistles, how in the western US they are an invasive and noxious weed that readily takes over land that has been disturbed and degraded. or something.

Fiiiinally got this illustration of Hades and Persephone finished up! I'm not 100% happy with it, it needed more digital touch-ups than I would have liked, but I like a lot of the overall mood and color. 😊

Part 3 in my king/knight series, this one titled "Ministrations" 😁 👑❤️⚔️

The partially disrobed king kneels before his knight; he is helping remove the knight’s armor, with his head resting against the knight’s thigh as he carefully unbuckles the leg armor. His hair is loose and tousled and he is smiling. The image is cropped at the knight’s waist, but we can see that the knight is shirtless and that most of his armor had already been removed. The knight and reaches a hand down through the top of the king’s crown to run his hands through the king’s hair while simultaneously beginning to slide the crown from the king’s lowered head.

I keep drawing people with either missing hearts, hearts being devoured or eaten, or things pouring out from their hearts. i'm sure that's nothing I need to worry about or think too deeply about, lol

I found it interesting that I could spot the differences in the browns, reds and greys with no problem, but the last few blue-purples gave me trouble nearly every time. www.keithcirkel.co.uk/whats-my-jnd...

I had the honor of painting the 2026 Commandfest Promo version of the Fyndhorn Elves card! I will be at Commandfest in Tacoma, WA in July if you want yours signed! :) (and tentatively one other location but I'm waiting for official confirmation).

Hades and Persephone are tinted, lightened, cleaned up, and printed out on 12x16 Sanders Waterford 140lb hot press paper. (note this method only works with a printer that uses pigment-based inks, as pigment based ink is fully waterproof. Dye based inks will unfortunately bleed when wet 😭).

There are other supplies strewn haphazardly around, including brushes, inks, and a watercolor palette with what is probably way too many colors (there are 59 half pans of different colors, the result of a few years of Blick Art gift cards)

I got this drawing of Hades and Persephone finished up today as well. I'll adjust the color and contrast in photoshop and get it printed on watercolor paper to start painting! 😊 (I also see a few proportional issues to fix before proceeding 🤨)

And they're done! I'm so happy with how this turned out. I'm starting to feel a little more confident in being able to produce finished illustrations in traditional media, not just studies. 😊This is watercolor + gouache., with a little bit of color pencil and pastel for final touches.

So, one challenge with printing out sketches onto watercolor paper is controlling how dark to make the lines. If they are too light, I lose track of them beneath my washes. If they are too dark, they stand out too much and can only be tamped down with gouache. 🤔
