Putting my Public Safety hat back on. We have another multi-day heatwave happening, and after a video I saw yesterday, this is a LOUD reminder that PETS NEED PROTECTION in this weather.

A pet safety graphic. The factors include:
Give shade and water.
NO CARS. Not even with the window cracked.
No Asphalt. If it would burn your hand, it will burn your critter’s delicate paw pads.
Limit Exercise. Don’t let playful animals over-exert themselves in the heat.
And most important, symptoms of heat stroke.
Excessive panting.
Discoloured gums.
Mobility problems. Confusion and unconsciousness.

Mac n Cheese n Docs are on a minor hiatus as I do not have any Mac n Cheese in the zone. But KFC did not effect up my order this time. It’s hot, and they brought the drink! Yay! And driver was tipped well.

Halifax police have found and charged this guy.

We are relieved to see that an arrest has been made with regards to the Islamophobic threats made in Halifax recently, inside a Costco store.
Randall Byron Publicover has been charged under various sections of the Criminal Code, including public incitement of hate and possession of a weapon.
We thank Halifax Police for their dedication and hard work on this file to apprehending the suspect.
This cannot be the new normal. We call on all leaders to help construct a new Islamophobia national strategy.

I hope to have this back to being a proper adult dining room again. It’s been seven months.

I swear, something in the water is making people more stupid. Correcting someone on who TF is on city council. Because this Election Year, this idiot will be scouring his ballot to find Kevinmckinley and Bruce. 😐

A person “helping” another poster on FB by presenting his ChatGPT results for who voted on a hot-button issue.
However, as this reply states, two of the people listed are not on city council. The one is clearly not a proper name.

Buddy doubles down and insists that the CB person who knows what the fuck she’s talking about “Google which city councillors voted in favour of the Bonnerworth Pickleball Courts.”

To which our person who knows what the fuck she’s talking about presents a screenshot of the actual list of city council members, from an actual city site.

It’s been five years since I found this little squirrel on the ground during a walk. With no way to get her back into her mother’s shoddy nest, she was kept warm and safe and taken to a proper rescue the next day. I called her Bebe.

A very, very young squirrel on an inside out sock. She is so young that she hasn’t got any fur and her eyes have not opened. Based on where she was found, she had fallen out of the nest, with no way to return her that didn’t involve a fire department ladder truck or an arborist.

CZANC Update: Had an errand downtown. Or “the blasted hellscape” if you will because that was our temperature map to the right. Seriously, if you do not need to be out, be somewhere cool. If you have to be out, take breaks and hydrate because your life does depend on it.

The Orange Alert Weather Notification, complete with handy tips to keep yourself and others safe.

The Orange Warning for Heat, from Tuesday (tomorrow) for the rest of the week, up to and possibly including Saturday. Temperatures are expected to hit 31-36 degrees Celsius, with a much higher humidity level. Night temperatures will not get below 21 and will not provide relief. Fun.

Orange Warning - Heat
Take action to protect yourself and others - extreme heat can affect everyone's health.
Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness. Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.
Watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Signs may include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and intense fatigue. Stop your activity and drink water.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency! Call 9-1-1 or your emergency health provider if you, or someone around you, is showing signs of heat stroke which can include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion and change in consciousness. While you wait for medical attention, try to cool the person by moving them to a cool place, removing extra clothing, applying cold water or ice packs around the body.
Drink water often and before you feel thirsty to replace fluids.
Close blinds, or shades and open windows if outside is cooler than inside.

Turn on air conditioning, use a fan, or move to a cooler area of your living space. If your living space is hot, move to a cool public space such as a cooling centre, community centre, library or shaded park.
Follow the advice of your region's public health authority.
Plan and schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day.
Limit direct exposure to the sun and heat. Wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.
Never leave people, especially children, or pets inside a parked vehicle. Check the vehicle before locking to make sure no one is left behind.

Okay. We’re in hell now. The coolest bit of the Southern part of the province is in the middle of the actual Great Lakes.

A temperature map which is mostly orange-red, except for the locations of Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, and Huron Bay. The rest is a sweltering lava-coloured hellscape. And the little blue dot is the location of the Crone Zone.
