Almost 4 years ago to the day, I christened Hazel, our tunnel boring machine as she got to work under our City on behalf of Alexandria Renew. Yesterday, I was back to celebrate the completion of our largest-ever infrastructure project and a commitment to cleaner waterways!

Great crowd at the NOVA Parks Tinner Hill Historic Site to celebrate Juneteenth! Over a century ago, the first rural NAACP branch in our nation was founded to prevent enforcement of a segregation ordinance that sought to divide a community.

A morning visit to NOVA Parks Carlyle House on Juneteenth to take in a guided tour telling the stories of the enslaved who lived in the house in the 18th century.

Our @NOVA_Parks team was honored to welcome @abigailspanberger.com & the Lieutenant Governor to The River View at Occoquan Regional Park for a bill signing today. Following the bill signing, our volunteer docents were able to guide the Governor through the Turning Point Suffragist Memorial.

Been here for almost 3 hours. Still no baseball, but amazing sky!

Finished up today at NOVA Parks Volcano Island at Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling. Tonight the second half of our group did in-service training as part of our aquatics kick-off. Lesson for next year: Wear my bathing suit for the aquatics kick-off.

Ended the day back at Great Waves at Cameron Run Regional Park. I spoke to the team as part of our aquatics kick-off as they participate in safety training. This summer NOVA Parks has hired 600 seasonal employees and we remain one of the largest youth employers in the region!

Swung by NOVA Parks Cameron Run Regional Park on a busy Sunday to say hello to our great team, chat with visitors and most importantly: perform quality control on our Dippin’ Dots. We had over 2,300 visitors having fun yesterday. It’s always a great time at Great Waves!

And Kid2 is a high school graduate! Do great things, Daughter. Congrats to the Alexandria City Class of 2026!

With perfect weather, starting Sunday with an early morning run in the woods on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail (BROT). We got started from the trailhead at NOVA Parks Fountainhead Regional Park. This pained face was an AFTER shot.

Up early this morning with Matt, our Roving Naturalist, and friends from the DC Bird Alliance to recognize #BlackBirdersWeek with a kayak tour from NOVA Parks Pohick Bay Regional Park. A little wet, but amazing osprey and eagles on the hunt!

Update: The Alexandria City Council is still meeting. Related update: We’re off the boat and getting post-game sushi in Old Town.

I hear that the Alexandria City Council is having a day-long public hearing with well over 100 speakers weighing a difficult policy question. In related news: The weather is perfect and we took the boat over to cheer on the Nats. #GoodLifeChoices

Got “close” to Leesburg and hit MOST of the pit-stops on the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail for Bike to Work Day. I get antsy when I’m past the outer reaches of Metro (Do people actually live past the Silver Line?) so I ducked into the Ashburn station for Metro to take me back East.

Almost 27 miles along the way and I’m now at the Sterling Pit Stop on the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail on Bike to Work Day! Apparently they have line dancing going on, but I’m going to pass…

I’ve made it to the Town of Herndon just off the Town Green a little over 23 miles along the way. Another great gathering of the Friends of the W&OD!

I’m now in Reston at a pit stop located at The Bike Lane, almost 20 miles along the way on the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail!

Next up, I have arrived in the Town of Vienna at the Town Green along the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail on Bike to Work Day! 14.5 miles in…and off we go!

I have reached my first pit stop 9 miles into my ride on the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail: In the City of Falls Church at Little Falls Street. The Friends of the W&OD are embarrassed by the condition of my helmet and conducting a mid-ride recalibration.

It’s Bike to Work Day! 2 million people use the @NOVA_Parks W&OD Trail each year, including many bike commuters. This morning, I’m going on an adventure on the Trail. I’m starting the morning off at the Del Ray Pit Stop in Colasanto Park before I head West.

Starting the morning in Loudoun County to celebrate a new overlook at the Luck Stone Leesburg Plant, Mile Marker 31.5 on the NOVA Parks W&OD Trail. A great partnership between Luck Stone, the Friends of the W&OD and our amazing NOVA Parks team!

Throughout my life, I have seen the example of great moms, especially the one that raised me and the one that managed to get our kids into “adulthood,” in both cases achieving these feats in spite of my best efforts… Happy Mother’s Day to all of those who nurture!

Great morning out on the water at NOVA Parks Sandy Run Regional Park watching the Al Urquia Regatta and 1,300+ student athletes from around the region competing. Our staff works closely with the volunteers from VASRA to create great experiences on the water!

It was great to end the week yesterday walking a bit on the NOVA Parks W&OD Trail in Falls Church with Mayor Hardi. Good discussions of efforts to improve trail safety and ensure everyone enjoys the best trail around!

This morning, along with our partners from Loudoun County and the Commonwealth, we broke ground for a new pedestrian/bike bridge to safely bring the NOVA Parks W&OD Trail across Sterling Boulevard. Thanks to our great partners for investing to make the best trail even better!
