We need all parties to negotiate in good faith to sustain this civic asset for future generations.

Last week, after hearing from community voices and a robust discussion, our board unanimously postponed a resolution vote to August 6. This gives us an opportunity to continue our discussion, and further refine the terms to maximize community and labor benefits.

The Moda Center's newest team, the Portland Fire, deserve equitable treatment in the renovations.

We need guarantees that this renovation will create good paying, union jobs through a project labor agreement.

We need a deal that serves as the foundation of a Rose Quarter and Lower Albina revitalization, in partnership with local community organizations already doing this work.

Our investment must be protected from cost overruns, and provide the ability to "clawback" dollars if the terms of our agreement are broken.

We need a return on our investment that can be reinvested in crucial public services.

Any investment of County funds starts with a commitment from the Blazers to stay in Portland for at least the next 20 years.

Last week our board considered a resolution that makes clear our commitment towards a renovated Moda Center is reliant on a deal that benefits everyone who lives here.

Preschool for All is growing fast. Today @multco.bsky.social announced that more than 1 in 4 Preschool for All providers expanded their small business this last year.

Today, residents of Multnomah County seeking emergency rent assistance through the County’s Department of County Human Services will be supported with an additional $5 million from the Portland Housing Bureau. The additional funding was allocated by the Portland City Council last month.

I want to thank everyone who have shared their stories and testimony at our last two public budget hearings. This a vital part of the budget process as my colleagues and I are considering our final budget decisions.

My expectation is that we will restore this funding and keep the doors open for our LGBTQIA2S+ community members experiencing homelessness. The larger cuts Marie Equi’s services are facing from the state are not something the county can solve, but we are doing our part.

Marie Equi Center Update: We can't lose such a critical resource for our community, especially our trans community. As soon as I learned how the proposed reductions would compound with state cuts we had been unaware of, I moved to direct the department to identify resources to address the gap.
