The two main findings about AI in for learning: AI impairs performance and it reduces persistence.
FWIW I didn't read this paper, just skimmed, so I don't know how much of the findings hinge on the *photometric* catalogs. The DESI targeting catalogs are much more conservative and don't seem to be as susceptible to shreds. The photometric catalogs on the other hand...
