Went for a walk. Looked for a footpath. Instead I just found the bottom 30cm of a post.

A metal post disappears into a dense bush. The grass is dry, and the pavement is just visible in the bottom right corner. This is, allegedly, a public footpath.

Close up of the same bush. A flash of dark green paint can be seen at the top of the metal pole. Once, it was a sign which said "public footpath" but now there appears to be no lettering at all.

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains. John Henry by They Might Be Giants in 1994. This album goes hard, and for me firmly established that @tmbg.bsky.social could hold their own in the big leagues.

Found a mysterious portal but it wasn't the rapture, just the interplay of photons, shading and woodland paths.

A dirt path in some British woodland. At the end of the woods there is a field. It is being brightly illuminated by the morning sun, giving the effect of a glowing circle where the path emerges.

An empty train station platform in the UK. Uncomfortable metal seats, a digital sign with a security camera, limp plants in a concrete coloured plant pot. Cars parked beyond the fence. The station sign reads "Brough" which might potentially be pronounced "Bruh" - it isn't, but when have we let pesky facts get in the way of a good joke? Or even a bad one?

I spent most of my day today fixing a computer. That's not particularly unusual in itself, but this computer was an ARM laptop. From 1992. #riscos #retrolaptop #acorn

An Acorn A4 laptop. The greyscale 640x480 screen has a text window open on it. The text in the window reads "Hello from 1992!"

The same Acorn A4 with various covers removed to allow access to the cables and battery I needed to replace. The screen is showing an image for the first time in over 20 years. Two wires run from where the original CMOS battery was soldered on to a new one not yet rehomed inside the case. Behind the machine is a soldering iron and so rolls of solder and other tools. The tools are not mine, but belong to the Nottingham Hackspace where I was working on it

Thanks to a timely comment, my Discworld re-read is going to involve a rare date line-up How do they rise up?
