Melnichenko cloaked his piece for safety as a warning to the West about the risks of Russia losing its "sovereignty" & is undoubtedly self-interested, but so are the other elites whose fortunes are threatened by Putin's tunnel vision of Russia's sole strategic goal = seizure of the Donbas.
Abbas Gallyamov has a different take on Melnichenko: he's warning Russian elites about risks to 🇷🇺 sovereignty in @economist.com turning the Kremlin's propaganda against itself. The real danger for *them* is state collapse or China vassaldom, not "if we don't take Kostyantynivka - to hell with that."

It's challenging for NATO to develop "a new strategic vision for the continent" amidst the war uncertainty General Zaluzhnyi describes. Will post-war Russia normalize & become a friendly partner or will hostile Cold War return? Thus short-term focus on maximal support for Ukraine is best value!
