"Democrats should say F--- trans people"

In a way, these initiatives could be doing the Democratic Party a big favor by taking it off the table. Once progressives decide a group is "marginalized" there seems to be no limit to what they will do on behalf of that group, regardless of the political consequences. Maybe that is noble in some sense but it also extremely self-defeating.
There is just no way to win on proposals such as requiring female sports to allow trans athletes in their competitions and opposition to regulation of vouth gender medicine. which is why Dem candidates always try to change the subject rather than discuss them. No. they aren't the most important issue but dismissing them doesn't make them go away. If these initiatives pass, it will make the issue fait accompli and thus otherwise promising center-left candidates won't be obligated to defend it.

I have "trans friends", and I'll discriminate against them. And I have no problems with misgendering. My "friends" know who they REALLY are!

I have several trans friends, whom I support and sympathize with their struggles. But having biological men competing in women's sports is inherently unfair. That's just a fact of nature. It undermines the whole concept of separate sports for women.

This is kind of the end-point of many years of "you can be anything you want to be!" - with the sense of entitlement that goes with that. Problem is, sometimes you just can't.
1 remember when the bruhaha over Lia Thomas was going down, I had a niggling thought: Why couldn't Thomas have waited? If she (I'll grant the "she" here) really wanted to continue her swimming career, she could continued on the men's team and waited till she had graduated and not taken on the whole mess.
But she was apparently desperate to transition. Then and there. OK. She couldn't have called it a wrap on her undergraduate sports career? She was something like 400th in the rankings among the men-that is something, but perhaps not compelling enough to postpone her transition for.
Of course, having transitioned when she did, she became a medal winner and a star.
We have (or had, things are changing) become a society where it was like, Thomas should not have to give up anything! She "can be anything she wants to be!" She can shoot for the stars! Whatever the cost to others.
1 think in general, our society is suffering from a lack of boundaries and maturity. Like, some things are worth it, some aren't. Some things are real, some aren't. Some valuable things come with a cost, so you have to be willing to pay the cost. Even as a Democrat and liberal, I feel like in a broad and general way, we (all of us, all sides) are paying the price for years of magical thinking.

When have the Democrats ever put themselves on this "hill", let alone "die" on it? Common "liberal" refrain... "I'm as Liberal Democrat as they come, but I hate transgender people as much as the Republicans do."

I'm a full on liberal and also an athlete. Males should not be competing with females unless they are under something like 10 years old and there are not leagues available for both. That said, this idea that it is running rampant across the country is complete NONSENSE and the textbook definition of a wedge issue. Liberals will always fall for republicans baiting them with these types of wedge issues. Trans folks need protections but this is not the hill to die on.
