Some days you're a bar wench, some days you're an adventurer, and some days you're a bad Oscar Wilde impersonator in a toga. Just another day as a professional in the games industry. 😂
Had a fun time at Winterfest today - saw some fighting and some very good bois.
There was a movie novelization of Bram Stoker's Dracula and it's blowing my mind that it's not actually the original novel.
I'm taking my time with Zero Parades. It's got me thinking deeply about time in video games, and I want to write a longer essay on it. But in the meantime, this is my current favourite line: "We are all a moron local to somebody."
Fantastic panel at Willy Lit Fest on speculative fiction, politics, genre definitions and believe it or not, stick insects. Great moderating from @clairegcoleman.bsky.social with Romy Ash, John Morrissey, and Rhett Davis.
The highlight from my trip to Swancon was meeting one of my literary heroes, Cthulhu. The elder god was keeping a low profile but I was such a fan they let me take this selfie.
Played my first ever game of Vampire: the Masquerade! 🧛 My Ventrue character wheeled and dealed their way to the top of Perth's power struggles under a very appropriate chandelier.
Can people stop releasing games I like or at least schedule them when I have at least 176 hours free? My current playlist...
Sorting out the games cupboard... Some thoughts: 1. I've been gaming a long time 2. I am old 3. Yes that is a copy of Star Wars Pod Racer.
I have the best job! Recorded an actual play for @chaosium.bsky.social today @scryglass.studio! Did Reginald Humpsworth, linguist and beef jerky connoisseur, survive the perils of the crypt? You'll just have to stay tuned to the Chaosium YouTube channel and find out for yourself...
Slowly fleshing out the new display shelves! (and no not in a Cronenberg kinda way)
If you mixed Robocop with a dash of Duke Nukem, and Kazuo Ishiguro’s incredible novel Never Let Me Go, then you’d have the mash-up that is Replaced. Unfortunately, the writing doesn't match up with the gorgeous visuals. My review and game writing critique: www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8nK...
Honestly most TTRPGs could learn from Esoteric Ebb how to give a simple explanation of what attributes do. Instead of 20 pages of minutiae, just "If you take this attribute no one will like you". 🤣 For the record, I'm playing a charismatic idiot.
I'm excited to be doing a fair bit of teaching this month including a workshop for the Estonian Literary Museum and guest lecturing at RMIT on game writing. Honestly, I always dreamed of doing this but it's amazing when it becomes a reality.
Loved catching Dice Paper Role at the Melbourne Comedy Festival! Got squicky and hilarious, as all one-shots should.
I finished Kingdom Come Deliverance II tonight. Absolutely epic, cinematic, and one of the best romances in video game history. 10/10. LOVED IT.
More than 20 years ago my mum gave my favourite video game away to my cousin. It's been a sore point for decades. When I asked him recently if he still had it, he looked for it and posted it back! Ocarina of Time is back, baby! 💚
Back in Australia today after three weeks in Japan! Amazing to finally destress and get a proper holiday for the first time in ages. Feeling refreshed and excited about my creative projects for 2026 - watch this space! (Also matcha takoyaki 😋)
Some very exciting news! I am going to be the Virtual Writer in Residence at the Estonian Literary Museum in Tartu through @melcityoflit.bsky.social! 🎉🇪🇪 I'm looking forward to sharing my love of horror fiction and TTRPGs with the Estonian writing community.
