Jacinta Allan is completely out of touch on gun safety. After previously caving to their gun lobby donors and rejecting caps on gun ownership despite expert advice, Labor is creating a government agency that can promote shooting to children. It beggars belief.

The Greens' plan to make housing affordable. Because you deserve a home you can afford.

1. Tax the ultra-wealthy property investors
We’ll bring down the cost of buying a home by taxing ultra-wealthy property investors with more than $5 million worth of residential investment properties and use that money to cut stamp duty for ordinary Victorians.

2. Cut stamp duty

Stamp duty is a huge upfront cost that makes it harder to buy, move or downsize.

We'll abolish stamp duty for homes under $1.1 million, and discount it up to $1.6m.

This only applies to homes that people buy to live in, not investment properties.

3. Build, don't demolish, public housing

We’ll more than double the number of public homes by building 88,000 new homes, and maintain & upgrade exisiting public housing.

4. Cap rents

We’ll freeze rents for two years, and ban rent increases in the first two years of every new tenancy.

Then we’ll cap rent increases so they can’t go up faster than wages (or inflation, whichever is lowest).
