I left for evening prayer around 5:15 this afternoon and found my neighborhood wrapped in smoke. It only worsened as I continued north, till I accepted it had to be coming from the Boundary Waters fires. This was the view out a side window in the sanctuary, looking out toward campus😞
Thinking of Thomas Merton today, and of the lines that open his autobiography. “On the last day of January 1915, under the sign of the Water Bearer, in a year of a great war, and down in the shadow of some French mountains on the borders of Spain, I came into the world.”
