It's Swine Event Time here at Emporia State Teacher's College. Happy Swine Event to those who celebrate.
Apollo astronauts used Hasselblad cameras on the Moon. To save weight for lift off, before leaving the lunar surface they depressurized the lunar model ascent stage cabin one last time and tossed out anything no longer mission critical. That included the Hasselblads once their film had been removed.
@radiofreetom.bsky.social My new office in our new departmental building won't be available untill August, but we were ordered out of our previous building on one week's notice. So... my office window views of Stately Nichols Hall are no more.
What are you talking about? Didn't McConnell just post this proof-of-life photograph?
Graham was Redfield to Trump's Dracula. An opponent at first, a slave later.
... I probably wouldn't have found that on my own until some water damage had been done, but Emma alerted me just after the leak started. This may not be the same as saving me from a house fire, but Emma (pictured here) did me a solid.
I do have this static adhesive IU Alumni Organization sticker for my office door, but Janeway probably has a holographic IU Alumni Organization wall plaque.
@straczynski.bsky.social In Point of No Return's first run back in the late 20th century, I really couldn't identify with Sheridan saying that he couldn't wear his Earth Force uniform with a clear conscience. 18 months into Trump 2.0, I am beginning to get it.
Ailanthus altissima ("Tree of Heaven"), an invasive tree species from Asia, is growing on the hill near my house. In Kansas.
Seriously. Even these guys had a larger conference room than we have in our new building.
It's no use! A Canadian Geese advance force has reached the northern banks of the Kansas River and are mounting an amphibious crossing. Alma may fall!
... and yet President Ford acted as president during the nation's 200th birthday with a lot more class than that man currently in the White House is acting with now. Here's a photo from the Bicentennial-related Parade of Tall Ships in New York Harbor.
Doesn't Trump doesn't realize that grass is a failry recent descendent of green algae?
Guarding the algae is the perfect metaphor for the Trump presidency.
@thedeltaflyers.bsky.social I just decoded the original sea shells by the sea shore photo that got James Comey into all that trouble last year. Whoever put those shells together wasn't trying to say "8647". They were trying to warn us about Species 8472 (the Undine). IYKYK
The counterpart of the guy with a very particular set of skills is the Farmer's Insurance spokesman here on Earth One.
@radiofreetom.bsky.social I'm up to nearly the start of the 4th of 7 seasons of Star Trek Voyager. One two-part episode in Season 3 involved the crew going back to 1996 Earth to stop a computer and space mogul named Starling from stealing future technology for his ChronowerX company.
Captain Janeway and I both graduated from Indiana University, but she's the one who has a statue in her honor on the IU campus.
Coal is the most environmentally destructive fossil fuel, and since the year 2000 while total fossil fuel energy use in the United States has only gone down 4% the part of total U. S. energy use that comes from coal has gone down an impressive 15%. It's Grade A stupid to promote increased coal use.
@stephruhle.bsky.social I still think that this would be a nice set design.
@worldbollardassoc.bsky.social I would like to bring to your attention this imposing bollard. I believe that it establishes a world record in height of bollard, most use of stone blocks and most ornate lighting. I believe that the bollard in the attached photo has won this world bollard competition.
@johnmoffitt.bsky.social I would like to get a paleontologist's opinion of my description of the photo of a polished section of a stromatolite-stromatoporoid fossil that is now in my Blue Sky profile. Here's the complete image.
@radiofreetom.bsky.social ALL POINTS BULLETIN! Scary blue shirt-wearing soccer guy Jurgen Klopp is now a spokesperson and brand ambassador for Trivago!!!
This Boomer is feeling nostalgic. Except that Senator Eagleton had to drop out as the 1972 Democratic vice presidential candidate because he had a history of being a psychiatric patient, not because of a Nazi tattoo or imprisoning a woman.
And there's MORE! An uncirculated 1909 Lincoln penny is mounted next to the color calibration chart of the Curiosity rover currently operating in Gale Crater, Mars. NASA engineers use it to measure dust build-up on the rover chasis. One day this may be the last Lincoln penny.
In the meantime I could distract them with some more outer space graphs and charts. For example... wait'll they get a load of THIS!
