Housing choice is good, actually. This tiny apartment probably shares a larger kitchen space and common area with other building residents. Micro units like this give people the option to live in a neighborhood they couldn’t otherwise afford. Basically it’s a dorm room for adults. (1/

We need to build way more dog parks. People are justifiably annoyed with off-leash dogs everywhere. Giving dog owners legal options in every neighborhood would help a lot.

ICE is more active than ever in the Seattle area. Maps show where people have reported seeing ICE in the last two weeks. (Iceout.org, 6/17-7/1). Each red pin is an arrest or raid.

Seattle showed up today! We got there late and missed the rally, but the march was massive, joyful, and multigenerational. Also totally non-violent as far as I could tell. We marched towards the end of the parade and didn’t see any graffiti or smashed windows

The fight took place in the mature Prunus tree outside my 3rd floor apartment, more specifically over a ratty nest. Actual rat’s nest? Or maybe the squirrel’s nest, although I didn’t think they used plastic. Either way there was lots of cawing and skittering.

To their credit, SDOT plans to improve this section this year. www.seattle.gov/transportati... But, the example is barely an improvement. It’s just paint and finger-wagging signs, the latter placed out of the way to avoid inconveniencing drivers even mildly.

It shows slightly more robust concrete bases for the Street Closed signs. Painted arrows suggest the illusion of a narrowing street. But the street is not physically narrowed at all, and the Street Closed signs are positioned in the parking lane and out of the roadway.

Somehow I don’t feel very comfortable walking in this “Healthy Street.”

In the parking strip there’s a sandwich board advertising a “Healthy Streets Survey.” Several feet away in the street lie the crumpled remains of a “Street Closed” sign, with the words barely visible and facing the ground. The sign and its bright orange base were clearly run over. Several orange traffic sit nearby, close enough to warn speeding drivers of the potential hazard but positioned out of the roadway.
