Academic working on Gender & Language in Greek tragedy, and gender in historical video games. Also a lot of women's cricket chat. Views all mine.
Reading historical theory (apparently) for some article revisions, but at least it's the first time in months that it's cool enough to do so on the balcony!
Lots of things to do today: finishing building an index, drafting grant applications in a fruitless attempt to save my academic career, article revisions. Also an hour of modern tragedies though: I'm really pressing on with this book section, which is nice to be making proper progress on.
Hmm. Why has only one of these options failed to properly dress themself I wonder?
I think everyone in Nolan's Odyssey should've had to wear headdresses like this: (THE MOTHER AND THE WIFE OF ŒDIPUS, KING OF THEBES: THE MAX REINHARDT PRODUCTION OF "ŒDIPUS REX," AT COVENT GARDEN The Sketch; London, Volume 77 Issue 990 - 1912)
Delighted to have the chance to meet @authorctowndrow.bsky.social this afternoon, and get a copy of Wicket Maiden, a cricket romcom! Right up my street.
Oh well since I just sat down and immediately she got out, maybe I did not need to worry about DWH playing today...
Well I do not think this is enough runs, so I suspect I am about to be right about who wins this world cup. I wish I weren't 😫
Seem to have picked up some new followers - welcome! Fair warning, you will get plenty more complaining about academic precarity here, but also at this time of year there is a lot of women's cricket chat...! It's semi final time!
Attendance confirmed at over 14k which is not bad at all given all the travel issues today. Good job everyone!
Game 2. Some of the schools have left but it's busier behind us for this one...
We go again! (Current work schedule quite evening heavy to allow for cricket trips down the road...)
Delighted to see that the Routledge Companion to Video Games and History now has a webpage and a cover! There will be an ebook (which given the length of this I imagine will be many people's preferred reading approach), it just doesn't show on the page yet. www.routledge.com/The-Routledg...
On the positive side, I'm currently in Granada, at the Ancient Reception on Screen conference, where today I'll be talking about what difference it makes to mythological or historical characters to make them romanceable in games!
Extremely cute version of modern Cupid is the protagonist in this week's classical reception game!
