C of E priest. Precentor at Southwark Cathedral. Delighted parent & granny. Shy extrovert. Cats, dogs, books, music. Infinitely distractible...
From Edinburgh to Drumbuie is a stunning drive & we are now safely installed in a friend's bolthole with amazing views and so much beautiful silence.
Well, we did it! All books happily shelved, 90% labelled AND I got a badge. Rather regretting life choices as playing libraries was one of my favourite things as a book obsessed only child! But at least L gets to live the dream 😀
Having the BEST time helping Favourite Librarian prepare for the new school year. There's a bit of reshelving & labelling going on, which just led to the pleasing poem "Fun Fun, Fur, Hag". Fear we may have peaked...
Out of office on. Train on time. In 50 mins I should be within hugging range of my most favourite of all librarians, who just happens to be my daughter. It's fair to say I'm more than a little excited. Lovely landscapes too: the very essence of summer hols, like a Ladybird book illustration.
Much joy (a whole Ode to it, indeed) at tonight's #bbcprom, my first of this season. Always a pleasure to hear Beethoven here, specially in good company...and there's even a door to door bus for me!
Thank you Bishop Christopher for your faithful, loving ministry as Bishop of Southwark. It has been a joy to work with you and a privilege to orchestrate a Farewell Eucharist today @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social. Many blessings as you move into the next stage of life and ministry
Pride Compline @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social was gentle and reflective and lovely. Our senior girls sang beautifully and I think the space did what we all needed tonight Love wins!
A good 35 years ago my friend J & I had a year as Chairs of Clapham & District NCT. Our lives involved lots playdates for our small ones, much drinking coffee & hours spent on Clapham Common. Today we met another friend there, a joyful reunion with coffee but no buggies. How did we become so old?!
Lovely time in Chinatown with #2S before The Producers at the Garrick. Would recommend both if you're feeling a little weary...joyous all round!
#FacesInThings. I think this was the castle close beside Rosslyn Chapel but wherever it is, it is clearly rather startled by something ...
St Pancras looking splendidly gothic this moonlit night. I do love London
A real treat to be @kingsplacelondon.bsky.social tonight for the Brodsky Quartet plus Laura van der Heijden doing Schubert String Quintet, which always makes me think of riding through a forest on a hot day. Thanks to aircin & a beautiful auditorium this feels quite possible...
Not much breeze, but enough to show off a lovely flag flying at St George the Martyr. Nice one, neighbours! #BoroughChurch
Things that our ancestors would never have imagined: the choirs of _both_ Southwark Cathedrals (RC & Anglican) singing Vespers together, with a choir & clergy team including women & girls. It happened. It was joyful. I'm deeply thankful. @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social #EverydayEcumenism
Sunday joy: to host & sing in the Diocesan Choirs Evensong @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social Around 100 singers from far & wise, fun repertoire (Let's be honest "Blest pair of sirens" is *so* much better to sing than to hear) We had a ball! Huge thanks @helensmee.bsky.social & team. Just brilliant.
For those who feel today has been tough...a quick burst of beauty in a gorgeous evening.
"Reading fiction boosts empathy." True fact from one of today's authors @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social It's certainly where this shyly extrovert only child made friends for life #booksky #nationalyearofreading
So much joy at the #nationalyearofreading #BigLunch @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social .Stories and poetry to make the soul sing "I am my own home" #booksky
@deanoakley.bsky.social talks about the power of sharing stories as we share food @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social within our focus on literacy this #nationalyearofreading. Stories help make sense of our lives. Stories make me happy. So pleased this is happening here ❤️
While today had its stressful moments the evening #WalkingwithWillow yielded radiant calm. A good, even delightful, day to be a shepherd, so they say.
A special event in @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social last night left some lovely decoration behind ...Wish I'd seen the candles alight but even like this I think it's beautiful.
How about this for a motivational signpost to encounter on a birthday? Many directions you could take, but no matter which path you choose, the only way is "Onward"... It did make me smile.
That was a lovely morning @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social Presiding remains the most joyful and blessed privilege, which never gets old. So thankful that I get to do so in this place, with these people. Hugely blessed
Looking at this rose, you'd never think there was anything wrong in the world at all. Such perfect beauty in a summer morn!
I treated myself to some peonies on Friday to cheer myself up for working on my emotional day off. Look how gloriously they have opened! Simply stunning.
Such a delight to be given favours from a colleague in our welcome team @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social whose son made his First Communion yesterday. Love and faith stretching across denominational boundaries. Just joyous!
Time now for the Dean's report, "a few flowers from a beautiful meadow", as he shares some moments from the past year @southwarkcathedral.bsky.social. It's such a delight & privilege to work with @deanoakley.bsky.social & all my colleagues here & to share under God the vision for this place. #AMDG
It being #Caturday Sorrel has decided to spoil me. What a good thing I don't have tight deadlines this morning..I do love it when she decides to risk proximity. 😻
