My most comic-related "I'm a terrible person" habit is that I have a folder on my desktop where I collect screen grabs of TERRIBLY used 3d background assets in comics. It's called "Bad Horses"
When The Teen and I watch anime or play a game together, we split a bowl of dry Lucky Charms as a terrible snack. Tonight is all about critiquing the “unicorn head” marshmallow shape and oh dear.
I'm currently working on a little The Crow piece and I'm just as surprised as you are that I was asked to draw it. Especially after I called The Crow "The movie The Craft but for Boys"
This is about half of a 200" x 10" single panel that's a big, Where's Waldo type thing through an underground library. It took 2 weeks just to ink because I didn't pencil out most of it, just went at it like a bear So as you can see I'm in a weird place where I've disassociated from everything.
The dad that runs my kid's school board game club asked me to draw a cover for a tabletop rpg campaign he's written. The guy freely spends his time with 6th graders playing board games so I decided to do him a solid and draw it for him for no charge. Here's part of it so far:
A rare Zero the Lobby Boy cat sighting. This cat is super skittish around me because I was in a wheelchair the first year she was with us and the thing freaked her out. Even though I can walk now she’s super sus of me and doesn’t hangout near me. That’s her “wtf are you pulling?” face.
That con that hands out the Hugo award gave me a half page add in their program as a favor for doing something for them. I really did shoot my shot there:
When you're making new promo material... are you allowed to just put "buy my books or I'll be sad" as a tagline?
This is the piece of Dungeon Crawler Carl merchandise I want made more than anything else.
It's my brother's birthday! So @lsaclassof2000.bsky.social , I did a drawing for you. I will invoice you for it later.
Some more random sketchbook pages. Bonus to do list that was shoved in there and a peek of the Larabar wrapper I’m using as a bookmark
Old Lady Cartoonist tech protip: if I'm lettering something myself, I have a jpeg of a piece of ruled paper I just throw on a new layer and draw over. Is it stupid and is the jpeg still called something like papercollege250xygi.jpeg? Yes. Am I going to learn to just put a guide line down? No.
For my fellow Dungeon Crawler Carl fans... I present Florin and his least favorite card.
I won't be at SDCC this year. In fact, I don't know when I'll be back. It's too big, too expensive, too cramped and too everything but fun. My plan is to stay home until I have something new to share... so best to stay home and make something new.
I use a ruler or my circle template directly on my Cintiq all the time. The hard look of line tools and whatnot don’t match my work so… you know. Mix and match.
Sketchbook page. I’ve been wondering what the high school’s next play is going to be so I can terrorize the other parents painting sets again…. Therefore I have musicals on the mind.
Why yes FedEx guy, this is the perfect time for you to knock and ask for a signature. Sorry I startled you.
I'm a big fan of everything @dropout.tv does. I've been using a lot of their regulars for little warm-up doodles this week. I liked this quick drawing of Jacob Wysocki. It's like... 2 inches tall. He's probably taller.
Ryan can't go so I am attending the National Cartoonist Society conference stag this year. So I don't go to the Rueben awards alone, I have come up with a plan
