‼️UPDATE! The historic border wall tree sit is now the world’s first ever binational tree sit. A banner hanging between the ancient Cottonwood tree in Lochiel, Arizona and trees in LaNoria, Mexico says: “From Minnesota to Mexico: Resistance is Fertile” 🌿 #SaveTheTrees #MigrationisBeautiful #Resist
Border militarization is deadly for people, wildlife and entire ecosystems. The US is killing trees older than the country claims to have existed, over 250 years old. One grandmother tree remains in a grove that was bulldozed to build the border wall. #Resist #SaveTheTrees @biologicaldiversity.org
THE LANGUAGE OF TREES! I’m staying in a friend’s house in Brittany, just received a package from NYC containing the first copy of the SPECIAL EDITION, hot off the press. I can’t wait to open it. But not right now. I’m bone tired. The sun is setting. Time to rest. I’ll open it tomorrow 🌿
‼️ The Henry Miller Library is temporarily closed. An evacuation order is in effect for parts of Big Sur, including the Library, due to the Timber Fire. Fewer cars on the road allow CalFire & emergency services to do their job as effectively & safely as possible. Updates fire.ca.gov Stay safe 🙏
Today is National Book Lovers Day! I’m in a hammock under a horse chestnut tree, a great spotted woodpecker visited. I’m reading and loving TURNING TO BIRDS by @lilitaylor.bsky.social and TOGETHERNESS by @rowhoop.bsky.social. What are you reading? 🥰 #BookSky #Birds #Trees #Lichen #Awe

It’s been lovely to share THE LANGUAGE OF TREES in Iceland. Now I can’t wait to celebrate the special edition, coming September 22. Yes, pre-orders mean a lot, so thank you for supporting if you can. I’m so excited for the book tour! 🥳 www.katieholten.com/the-language... #NatureWriting #Trees 🌿
Grateful for a wonderful month in Iceland at a very special residency for artists (and writers). Having a studio to focus on a new project was incredible. Living on a horse farm surrounded by volcanic mountains was a dream. A highlight was visiting a little island inhabited by 500,000 puffins.
A lovely welcome to Iceland! On our first morning we visited Björk’s show at the National Gallery in Reykjavík. Beautiful songs remembering her mother (who I met in Venice years ago), masks by James Merry, and an active volcano.
I’ve been in Iceland for one week, but it feels like one magical, never-ending day. I took the video just after midnight when the sun briefly dips below the horizon. This is as dark as it gets. The horses, birds, and bees seem to have figured out an optimal napping strategy. #MidnightSun
Beautiful wildflowers growing outside my house and studio here in northern Iceland. Can someone please help me identify them? 🙏 #wildflowerhour
Welcome to my studio in northern Iceland, just south of the Arctic Circle. Here, the sun only briefly dips below the horizon, day and night merge into endless brightness. Icelandic horses keep me company, and lots of beautiful birds, including Godwits, Snipe, Curlew, Plover, Redshank, Arctic Tern
We the people hold these truths to be self evident, that all flourishing is mutual. —Robin Wall Kimmerer #InterdependenceDay
Happy Interdependence Day! Greetings from Iceland. It snowed overnight. Sending cool air to those struggling in the heat. Sorry, I didn’t realise the wind sounds so loud, you can’t hear me whisper, or the birds. I’m reading On Time and Water by @andrimagnason.bsky.social. All flourishing is mutual 🤍
Packing for a residency in Iceland. Brrr 🥶 I was hoping to see the midnight sun, but it looks like we’ll get an hour (one hour!) of darkness. So much light! Any tips for how to survive a month with 7 million Puffins? #magic #summersolstice
Happy Bloomsday to all who celebrate! The day is named after Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce's novel Ulysses, which take place on Thursday, June 16, 1904. Meanwhile, I'm still translating Ulysses into Irish Trees. Maybe it'll be ready next Bloomsday. Yes I said yes I will Yes!
LIVE: See his name coming off the Kennedy Center via MSNOW livestream: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntWd... The letters went on in two hours with two cherry pickers. But removing them is an epic saga! A crew is working through the night, poor souls. #coverup #conman #kennedycenter

Then he asked if he could do it again! For disabled travelers in search of adventure, there are a growing number of options. In Oregon, one wheelchair user went tree-climbing. Story by Sonia A. Rao. Visuals by Michael Hanson @nytimes.com Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/06/07/t... #trees 🍃
The Beginning Comes After the End by @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social, a beautiful, brilliant little gem of a book 💗🐝

Anna Macleod also has a beautiful show on right now at The Dock. Both shows close this weekend, catch them if you can! www.thedock.ie/exhibitions/...
Wonderful time visiting my friend Helen O’Leary in Leitrim. She led a workshop making natural dyes from local plants. My favourite is Gorse, it makes so many variations of gorgeous gold! This is your last chance to catch Helen’s show at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon, closing this weekend.
Beautiful Aquilegia, like dancing fairies. Are the mellow yellow’s native to Ireland? They love growing wild with the weeds 💛 #WildflowerHour
My friend painted her house to match the Cowslips growing around the front door. I love them so much! ✨ #WildflowerHour #Leitrim
