Watching people watch the eclipse—because I caught myself on a solo trip to Caen during this thing, unprepared—and a very nice Norman gave me a pair of eclipse glasses. ❤️ Normandie 🐆🐆
It’s really hard to pick who will win today’s stage. Pogacar lost last year, so maybe he’ll want this today. I think Carapaz is exhausted after this last week, otherwise I’d give the “most aggressive” rider a second look 🇪🇨 💪
My point being made in another graph (from Opta data). It’s obvious to anyone who simply watched the game, but it’s also what Arteta planned for: a defensive block, no creativity, a slog.
It was a relatively boring (def irritating) final, but at least the better team won in the very end. Look at just how one-sided it was. Arsenal barely tried to score—literally didn’t between minute 6 and minute 70. I’m glad the ref called them out for some of their time wasting. 🥱
First outing (sortie), first chuppen, first time playing outside with the bagad, first march while playing a double reed (bombarde) A good Saturday!
Guys, this is dumb. The closest thing to “biblical eating” I can think of is sharing a meal with people who don’t have enough to eat. Not hummus.
The Championship table is just so exciting. One game left, and the 6th playoff spot is still up in the air. - Wrexham (6th, 70pts, +4 GD) host Middlesbrough (4th) - Hull City (7th, 70pts, +3 GD) host Norwich (9th) - Derby (8th, 69pts, +9 GD) host Sheffield United (15th)
Wrexham 🤝 United We’ll take care of Chelsea next month. Till then, focus on meeting us in the Premier League next season. Then we’ll both show Garnacho where he can sit.
Happy Thanksgiving 🍽 from the Hexagon (France) I celebrated on my own in the kitchen yesterday, and made gooey pumpkin chocolate brownies for the office today.
Ran my first ever 10k today in the HOKA Paris Centre race. It took me a little over an hour (but only a little 😉), so I kept my brain busy with the @empirepoduk.bsky.social podcast ❤️. Then I hiked up to Gare du Nord for a well-deserved thali and South Indian coffee.
Cynthia Erivo came to Cleveland Orchestra’s summer home, Blossom, to perform mostly pop, jazz, and a few Broadway tunes arranged for orchestra to a crowd of 20k. There was no Wicked, which I think is sad for all the little girls who came out (dressed up). But she sang the hell out of Feeling Good.
This part of Lisbon is under the path of a lot of airplanes. Some people find it hard not to notice #DH2025
I also learned they got really into porcelain after trading with China.
New murals just dropped. #Clichy Le festival d’art urbain C.A.P.S. a lieu ce week-end à Clichy, mais je ne sais pas si ces nouveaux en font partie. En tout cas, c’est un super ajout sur mon chemin vers l’Aldi.
The pope today, presumably speaking to Manchester United fans. #MUFC
Tomorrow (Wednesday, 11 June), if you’re in Paris, come see the many presentations open to the public. #medieval Demain, le mercredi 11 juin, rejoignez-nous à Paris pour la partie de la conférence ouverte au public. Il y aura plein d’interventions passionnantes. École nationale des chartes, Paris
Can I at least add that Alcaraz’s shirt looks good? He wins best dressed. And he wins the set!!
More progress on the LostMa corpus, now that the French texts and witnesses have been entered, as well as all the Middle Dutch and (almost) all of the Middle English. Next big milestone is Middle High German! Can’t wait to see if its survival rates maintain or change the trends we’ve already seen.
Because I’m still not totally happy with our website’s bar graphs, I thought, this afternoon, I’d quickly swap out Chart.js for D3.
