Diana knew Fay Presto, who is a trans woman (& a brilliant magician) & Fay said she was kind to her when many people weren't.
I love the way The Boyfriend looks, but the lack of a decent plot or sparkling dialogue makes it very boring. Like a long slog through a tech rehearsal.
To add to the Lola discourse - I think in the line "... I'm glad I'm a man & so is Lola" he's saying that Lola is glad that he (the narrator) is a man (because they fancied each other) & it conveys the idea that a man & a trans woman can be in love & it's not "mixed up". It's just love.
I had to look up Gaye Advert to understand the joke & she's fabulous! And still is!
Muslim soldiers who were serving in the British Army, praying outside the Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking, 1916.
Enjoyed Blink at @kingsheadtheatre.bsky.social about a mutual parasocial relationship in our era of tech overload. It also has poignant themes of grief & recovery - plus, it's funny & romantic.
Watching 'I know where I'm going' on iplayer & it's fabulous. I've only seen bits before.
This! @michaelhobbes.bsky.social It happens in the UK too. There's always a reason why letting it slide becomes the best option unless it's some daft celebrity scandal.
When I was a kid I thought Salieri poisoned Mozart in Amadeus, but he doesn't! He loses his mind because Mozart's death thwarts his plan to steal his requiem. Still, not as bad as me spending about 20 years thinking ET died because I cried so much I didn't see the end.
Finally went to see Moulin Rouge! & it's terrible. Starts off trying to be all sexy & transgressive & then goes into a street scene that could be from an amateur production of My Fair Lady in 1962. No decent jokes, the song updates are random & the plot's underdeveloped - but the cast are good.
I love 70s Bowie, but a relative thinks the "chug rock" didn't go with the flamboyant outfits. I'm considering it.
I love the Winter Olympics because it has ice dancing. Outfits, romance, drama!
I used to concentrate better listening to classical music, but recently, Paul McCartney's solo career has been more productive. Also, a band called @bradford-band.bsky.social who create beautiful, gritty dreamy songs about real life.
Watched the Moon-Spinners last night. It was very sweet & romantic. Will have to look up the Mary Stewart novel.
Betar USA was denouncing the board as woke/liberal & praising Robinson just before he was invited to Israel by the minister. Then Robinson posted a statement attacking any Jewish person who didn't agree with him - it's the old BNP antisemitism with contingent exceptions.
I re-bought some of my Diana Wynne Jones books because her covers were ugly when I was a kid.
I liked 'Too Much'. It gets a bit dreary with them all being the same self-absorbed, boho, messes, but it's well done.
Spending a ridiculous amount of time chasing up Paddington Bear's Magical Musical, or The Worst Thing I Have Ever Seen, as my Auntie calls it.
Come see the SAST scratch night! Thursday 27th February, 7.30pm. Mysterious location revealed when you buy a ticket! (or email & ask)
The Little Lady of the Lilies, an old-time Romance (set in the French Revolution) by Ellen Draycot, collected in The Golden Annual For Girls 1925. (I bought it from an antiques shop in Inverness.)
