My 3-time great-grandfather Andrew Hanna died in 1862 in Ragged Point, Potamac River, VA when 2 Union ships collided. Enlisting at 55, he claimed to be 45 and was likely on his way home when the shipwreck occured. They never found his body. A New Brighton Cemetery marker says he slept where he fell.
Although Augustus Silverthorne did not die during the Civil War, he died less than a year after it ended of an illness contracted during his service as a guard on Johnson's Island. So, Ryan put a poppy by his gravestone today.
