Hurrah for Syttende Mai! (Norwegian Constitution Day, May 17th). My family has been hanging out the flag on this day for generations. My grandfather & his parents emigrated from Norway. I bought this flag while visiting relatives in Oslo & hang it out every year.

I’m having trouble accessing your site. I use DuckDuckGo. When I click on the link in Bluesky, it takes me to the post. When I try to visit the site via my browser, I get the attached loading screen and it seems stuck at that point. It might clear up automatically, but thought I’d let you know.

2/2 I do believe that prayer can be an important spiritual discipline to help people stay on the path they have chosen, but when you add magical thinking to it, it goes very sour. This quote from Terry Pratchett's "Wyrd Sisters" is possibly the best description of how I think prayer actually works:

Magrat’s arm tingled as the power flowed up it.*Granny’s broomstick jerked forward.
“Leave me a bit,” shouted Magrat. “I’ve got to get down!”
“Shouldn’t be difficult,” screamed Granny, above the noise of the wind.
“I mean get down safely!”

Luckily I had saved all of the leftovers from this project. (I have a bin for fabric I save for “patch kits”). So now I’m going to see what I can put together, if you compare the 2 photos you can really see how faded the old pillow covers are.

Stacks of leftover burgundy, yellow, green, brown, the leafy multi-color batik, along with two pieces leftover quilted style pieces made from the same collection of fabrics from a related project.

Tonight’s sewing project is re-making covers for the den couch. I made the originals many years ago and this year the fabric finally gave up after much wear & UV damage.

Brown, yellow, green, burgundy, batik fabric in an abstract leaf pattern. There’s is a hole worn in the center and the fabric is faded from sun exposure. (The pale green lining fabric is showing through).

I realized I didn’t have any good photos of the shirt & pants. Since it’s my understanding the first Star Wars costumes were heavily influenced by Japanese historical clothing, I used similar sources to design the shirt (as the only part that was visible in the film was the very 1970s collar).

I used an orange cotton fabric for the shirt and had to design my own stencil to create the pattern on the shirt. My housemate (who's really good at color matching) helped me mix the color for the stenciled pattern (it's a brownish black, not a true black).

This is the full outfit. I patterned and sewed everything except the shoes. It consists of a shirt and pants under the robe and a jacket over the robe.

Two photos taken at the end of my work today. I got the last few rocks placed & spouse came and helped me spread the gravel. I worked on this for 2hr & 46 min (with breaks), & walked 2.1 miles, just in my backyard.

Happy Syttende Mai to my Norwegian friends and family. I'm 2nd generation Norwegian-American and still fly the flag every 17. mai just as my mother before me did. Gratulerer med dagen! Hurra for Syttende Mai!

I received the embroidery frame & stand yesterday. After getting it set up I did some work on the more finished of the 2 chair covers. The frame really helps! Thanks so much for the suggestions.

Sharing this slightly awkward statement from the Episcopal Bishops of the diocese of New York because it supports the trans and non-binary community, & affirms that trans, non-binary, & LGBTQI+ people are worthy of love & respect simply by virtue of their existence. (I grew up Episcopalian)

A Letter from the Bishops of New Your in support of our transgender sibilings in teh Episcopal Diocese of New York

It's not social theory. Scripture tells us that we are all created in the image and likeness of God. We reflect the image of Gdo in all our great and beautiful diversity. God abides with us most fully when we are vulnerable, strugging, or afraid. We know that God loves transgender people. There is no well-trod path for our transgender siblings. Discernment requires their daily courage. Trans people often travel a long distance to discover who they are. Parents search for ways to support their children who are transitioning. No one should feel alone.

Beloved,
We share this pastoral letter in care and love for our transgender siblings. Dignity for trans people has become a casulty of political combat. Healthcare, passports, and military service have all come under threat. physical violence and harassement have increased for all trans, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people. Trans women and trans people of color are at espcially high risk. The administration has delcared that transgender people are non-persons. We know different.

We know that we are called to seek and server Christ in each other.

Our congregations are called to be places where we experience God's love fully. We are meant to be commnities of safety, belonging, and freedom. God's unshakeable connection with each of us call us to be in solidarity with each other.

The earliest claim about Christians in the first century was see how they love one another. It was wasn't the culture of the time. It was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That's still true. Our transgender siblings dwell in God's love.

Absurdistwords 1st post:
White supremacy is kinda like high fructose corn syrup.

Very few people would purchase a bottle of it for themselves, but it's cheap, palatable, effective, unhealthy and is an ingredient in just about everything.

Absurdistwords 2nd post: To me the experience of opening my eyes to white supremacy was like realizing that HFCS was a component in everything I picked off the shelf at the supermarket.... even in things you wouldn't expect.

Just a constant refrain of "Seriously, It's in this too?"

If you really don't care and aren't actively looking for it, you likely won't find it. You'll just consume it thoughtlessly.

Those who are adversely affected though will be rigorous in identifying it because a failure to do so is harmful. They will look harder and find more.

I'm working on finishing #needlepoint chair covers that my grandmother started. I saved them when she died in the 1990s. Any tips on tools that would make the work easier? I've done a lot of different crafts (knitting, sewing, etc) but seeing folk's work here encourages me to ask for tips.
