American Girl is doing adult novels about the OG historical dolls in celebration of their 40th, beginning with Samantha. Sam has so far been the tentpole in expanding the franchise and world building this year, with the Girl of the Year being her great-granddaughter.

I just also want to note that while she’s doing so much amazing big budget work now, Meteor Man was a $20mil film. BAPs cost $10mil. School Daze was $6.1mil. She created the Golden Lords on a budget and they are every bit as iconic as the Dora Milaje.
I felt the same about BAPS. There was this understanding that despite others maybe seeing what Nisi and Mickie were wearing as exaggerated street wear or even “ghetto”, to those characters outfits like this were their Sunday Best and there was pride and intention behind everything they wore.
I don’t know how or where to pitch anymore, but I look forward to some visual retrospectives of her work over the next few weeks. Her work in Chi-Raq made it a film that stuck with me way more than the material should have warranted.
