We were given very low odds of precipitation yesterday. After witnessing a beautiful stormset, I had to dash home through that 20% chance of rain. Damn near drowned.

Fun discovery: our kitty on the left in this photo (same one who’s had anaphylaxis twice) is a rare creature called a red-on-blue tabby, which is why his face always looks sort of dirty. The coloration seems to be caused by a yet-unidentified gene mutation. messybeast.com/pseudo-cinna...

The generative AI “piss filter” is really something. Most fully AI-generated book covers look more or less like this:

This whole lost giraffe situation is making me realize a lot of people still think Texas is all flat and treeless. The giraffe is in the Hill Country. It’s wooded and, well, hilly. And it’s a region roughly the size of Ireland.

“Old Baldy,” a hill in Garner State Park. The hill is wooded with Ashe juniper, and the side facing the Frio River has a rock bluff.

Our formerly feral tomcat friend, Popsicle, loves Citrus the teen mom cat and her little blond kittens. He calls for them whenever they’re not nearby. The kittens follow him like ducklings and he plays with them. It’s freaking adorable.

MC has/has had Major Surgery: THIS IS THE DOOR: The Body, Pain, and Faith, by Darcey Steinke. This book bounced around a lot, but I found plenty of moments that resonated in the author’s exploration of chronic pain and its relation to faith.

Chronic Migraines or Headaches: SEVEN DAYS IN JUNE by Tia Williams. Contemporary romance isn’t my usual genre, but this was a beautifully written book with compelling characters, and the migraine rep rang gut-wrenchingly true for me. Thanks to @skyekilaen.bsky.social for the rec!

Indie authors who claim they MUST use gen AI to make their book cover because simple covers with no art aren’t good enough: This book won a bazillion awards, sold a bazillion copies, and got turned into a TV show. Yes, it’s trade published so not an exact parallel, but readers do buy simple covers.
