Portlanders: Recent polling showed 62% of voters have a negative opinion of Portland City Council. They earned it over the past few weeks. Council approved the largest cut to police and public safety in Portland history. Council defunded the specialists who respond to property crimes, when Portland ranks 2nd in property crimes nationwide. Council cut officer training at the same time councilors say they want better policing.
Council spent months debating how to ban foie gras for an elite few, while grocery stores that serve thousands of families are closing to because of crime, theft, and the lack of public safety. I'm not sure how much harder you can signal "out of touch" than that.
Let's be clear: Portland has a police staffing crisis and with this budget, Portland City Council made it much, much worse.
Every member of the Portland Police Bureau will continue to serve Portlanders and keep our city safe - as best we can. But until city politicians make public safety a priority, Portland will suffer economically and public safety will disintegrate.
There is a solution: the ballot measure to give Portlanders a direct voice in prioritizing public safety by requiring 2.0 officers per 1,000 residents. Right now, we have half the number of officers we need. When I became an officer, we had over 1,000 officers. Today, in a much larger city, we have fewer than 800. We can't keep asking officers to do more with less - there will be a breaking point. We are very close. - Aaron Schmautz, Portland Police Association President

I am writing regarding the allocation of the $10 happy hour ticket fees and membership dues.
While I recognize that as an LLC, the Lesbian Culture Club is not legally required to disclose its internal expenses, providing this information would be a significant step in building trust and maintaining community support. Clear communication regarding how revenue is utilized, like operational costs,
merchandise, and venue bookings, or for other purposes, is essential for the club's reputation.
I would like to know if a % of these proceeds is donated to local LGBTQIA+ organizations in the Portland area.
Currently, there are rumors circulating that the funds primarily benefit organizers and supplement income.
Voluntary transparency would go a long way to show it aligns with the mission.
