All shall be well. The second photo is of a sign now resident in my garage, from where a country club had a long term lease on a Native American earthworks, and limited public access to four days a year. Until 2025, after decades of work... (There were over 30 of these signs, 1 is in the archives.)
This Sunday, July 26th, I'm preaching for Highwater UCC (north of Fredonia) at their 9:30 am service; the text is 1 Kings 3:5-12 & the message title is "The beginning of wisdom." We could all use some wisdom, amirite? No babies will be cut in half for this sermon.
I'd like to start a rumor that Joss Whedon is working on "The Divine Comedy, Part 1" in Georgia & Bulgaria.
I'm not generally into eschatology, but I'm now wondering if the world has in fact ended, and we are currently in stoppage time.
Preaching at Woodside Presbyterian Church this Sunday, July 12 from Psalm 119:105-112 on "A light to my path": let your light so shine!
So it begins: seven days of the Fourth! @GranvilleKiwanis is already at work…
7:00 pm tonight. This should be... interesting. www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/t...
Read Psalm 37. All the way thru. Pause. Reflect. Then read it again. #ThatIsAll
Something we had for the Bicentennial which I suspect isn't as big for @america250.bsky.social...
In this morning's prayers: for Ohio this summer, as people gather and look for community & connection. Over the last two days, in Toledo, in Bexley, in Newark, we had shootings & violence & fights breaking out, disrupting festivals & events & entire neighborhoods. God grant us peace.
This Sunday, June 7 at Woodside Presbyterian Church in Newark, for the Second Sunday after Pentecost, I'll be preaching from Hosea 5:15-6:6 on "The meaning of Hesed" . . . and I'm likely to be referencing Sister Monica Joan and the "Call the Midwife" series finale, while I'm at it.
"All of humanity's problems stem from one single thing: not knowing how to sit still in a room." ~ Blaise Pascal, Pensées (1654) In the original French: "Tout le malheur des hommes vient d'une seule chose, qui est de ne pas savoir demeurer en repos, dans une chambre."
Preaching this last Sunday of May, the 31st, for Woodside Presbyterian Church at 10:30 am from Psalm 8 & 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, under the title “E pluribus unum": come join us!
As questions come in about the earthworks hike at 9 am tomorrow, May 23: if there’s lighting, we won’t walk. I’ll be at Great Circle Museum; if it’s raining steadily & a front is possible we may just walk to Wright Earthworks & back. But rain only isn’t enough to stop us!
This Sunday, May 24th is Pentecost, and I’ll be preaching at Woodside Presbyterian Church from 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13 on “A variety of gifts" . . . with a nod to Acts 2:7-11. Join us at 10:30 on Woods Avenue in Newark!
2/2 ...of what remains of the four-and-a-half square mile complex in between between the @ohiohistory.bsky.social units. Wear a hat and bring water! We walk in rain, but not if there's lightning or high winds.
One week from today, Saturday May 23 at 9:00 am: I'll be leading another Remnants walking tour of the Newark Earthworks; a three mile hike starting and ending at the Great Circle Museum about 12:30, venturing off-site onto the streets and alleys of Newark to see remnants... 1/2
Wonderful program in worship by the youth on “Think Like Moses” with guest appearances from 3 kids in Japan; hat tips all around at Centenary UMC! #HappyMothersDay
Tonight is last baked steak dinner at Woodside Presbyterian in Newark til Sept.; eat-in & take-out starts about 4:15 pm, runs out around 6:15, $11 for whole deal including pie (or other desserts, less choice after 5 pm) & well mashed potatoes made from real taters! On Woods Ave.
Why oh why didn’t a M*A*S*H spinoff show launch with Nurse Meg Cratty? That would have been a storyline worth following…
Communion Sunday at Woodside Presbyterian Church on Woods Ave. in Newark at 10:30 am; I'll be preaching from Acts 2:42-47 on this Fourth Sunday of Easter, sermon titled "A Simple Pattern."
Easter morning, 10:30 am at Woodside Presbyterian Church in Newark, the text for the day is Colossians 3:1-4 with the preaching message titled "Hidden With Christ": come celebrate resurrection with us!
From @BeschlossDC on Xwitter: "LBJ's Oval Office view before he gave withdrawal speech tonight 1968" -- I remember my mother's shock as Johnson said: "I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your president." 58 years ago this evening.
45 years ago today, Ronald Reagan was shot in Washington, D.C., & that night a five month long ordeal ended for me, a bizarre harassment situation I've written about earlier. It makes this anniversary land oddly for me, that's for sure.
Fig Monday in Holy Week; each day from Palm Sunday to Easter has an interesting traditional meaning & story behind it.
