This game isn't perfect, but it has so much heart in even the little things.

This conversation makes such a good parallel to the rain scene later on because really in the end, in their own ways, they saved each other. Dimitri through his abundant empathy and Byleth through their learned experience. Yeah, I love them ough
I really do love the parallels in their dynamic. From the emotional to a fault and "emotionless" from the start, to even their similar ideas for revenge after losing their loved ones. It's only after Byleth merged with Sothis that they took Dimitri's words and made their own spin on it.
He does have pure intentions in comforting Byleth, but it's also clear that Dimitri can't let go of his own ideas of revenge and lets that bleed into his motivating speech. Because Byleth's plan for revenge almost cost them their life, and they had to lose Sothis in order to get out
